I have watched Kdramas prior to this. Streaming was not a thing back then so you had to look for stores that sells DVDs. Goblin was one of the Kdrama where streaming is already a thing. The storyline was unique back then and the show was well budgeted.

I think the masses agree... This show should have been about grim reaper instead of Goblin

The only reason I'd recommend it is to watch the Grim Reaper and sunny parts. The biggest flaw is the episodes are long without much progression. Vincenzo and Crash Landing on You has long episodes, but every minute was used to progress some story beat. Crash Landing in particular could (arguably of course) have used more time because it felt like they were being crunched (the only time CLOY dragged it's feet was at the end)

I could never get over the age difference between the main couple so I couldn't root for them. I did like sunny and the grim reaper though, Lee dongwook is just so amazing.

(In my opinion) Frankly speaking, no. I will never understand why its part of the classic kdramas. The rewatchability is 0, episodes are way way too long (a problem that plagues a lot of kdramas, but is especially prominent here).
There are parts of it that are fun (the Grim Reaper, great cast, music), but not enough to make up for how boring it is as a whole lol.
I need everyone who considers it a classic to give it a rewatch, because it's gotta be just nostalgia. Not even going into how uncomfortable the goblin and lead girl's relationship was 🤢.
All this to say, the bones of the story are good, but what the end product was?? Will never get the hype and I've been watching kdramas for 15+ years.
Let me say the quiet part out loud. I would not call it a must watch at all. If anything, ppl need to stay away from it. Literally watch any other kdrama.

Goblin has a lot of great parts, and probably would be a GOAT KDrama if it were 10 episodes instead of 16 (and shorter episodes at that). At the same time, this drama would only be average if not for the Grim Reaper character. He was such a pivotal part, that KDrama fans demanded and got their own KDrama, Touch Your Heart, which is a KDrama just starring Grim Reaper and Sunny. The best parts of the show revolved about Grim Reaper (His fish out of water romance with Sunny, bromance with Goblin, and tragic sadness in the closing arcs). Gong Yoo is great, Train to Busan and all, but Reaper stole the show. What I really didn't like about the show is all the filler and fluff that dragged the show out. That random Zombie Jafar arc against the advisor was totally unnecessary and a waste of time. They also really really dragged things out with the Goblin and Eun-Tak relationship. To the point where I was going "GIVE ME MORE REAPER AND SUNNY". Reaper being the alien mythical creature "learning to be human" by Sunny was a very cute romantic comedy rant and so wholesome. We got Touch Your Heart, but I wouldn't mind a spinoff with the actors as these characters (they do have great chemistry in Touch Your Heart though). I was with people too where it was a bit odd looking age gap with the main couple (not the 2000 year to 18 year, but more the 18 year to his 40 year old frozen body). Again, if a lot of the fluff was trimmed up, it would have been easier to watch. Vincenzo is a show that added fluff, but good fluff, where they used that fluff to develop the younger brother and turn him into a strong character. Character development. There was no development during the fluff here. While Reaper being the reincarnated king was cool, I didn't feel like they needed to add that to the wholesome Sunny and Reaper relationship. I did like that the end arc made me feel sad for Reaper at the end though and all the pain he went through. Sorry for my rant... hahaha... it's a great show, just should have been trimmed up.

I dropped it n never picked it up back again. The bromance was hillarious and adorable. N so was the soundtrack. Thts pretty much the only thing I loved abt the show. Nt to mention the main romantic leads being well.. "But nothing romantic happened until she turned of age". Dont care. The show still created a romantic atmosphere around her n ml when she was still a minor. N it made me feel uncomfortable. I think i only tried to watch this because of Gong Yoo. He was my first kdrama male lead. I adoooore Coffee Prince (2007).

Goblin is an all timer and a classic imo. It’s also the father of the supernatural genre for kdramas. The 2nd leads are still my fav 2nd leads of all time. I personally think, that Goblin is a masterpiece, but can also understand when people don’t see it like that. It’s completely subjective.

I also think this show was so popular for its time because of the major shift in western audiences tuning into kdramas. It slowly became a classic to lean back on because of the star studded casting and not so much on the plot. The story handles some tropes really well and the 2nd leads chemistry was definitely the fan favorite thus causing them to get their own drama later on.
