They come from the same culinary background--they see that deli with a different set of lenses than the staff they work with. Naturally, he would hold her to a higher standard, and I truly believe Sydney already understood the assignment. But Sydney's at a place where she's done with the dirty work. She's earned it too. I also think Carmy sucked in the way he communicated to her, because he did just throw her to a pack of wolves, and while she's tough, she should be protected! Precious sydney!

Keeps people from accidentally stabbing or burning each other when they're moving from one place to another. You also yell "hot!" or "knife!" if you're the one with the sharp object or the hot pan, or taking something out of the oven (even opening the oven, honestly), and "heard" when your chef ("yes, chef") or team mate gives you an instruction and it was acknowledged. It really keeps the machine running smoothly, since there's never time for lingering on anything. I would say you make some of the closest friends in a kitchen, because you're GOING to see the ugly in each other a lot whether you like it or not--tension runs high every day, but it's like you're surviving together during those hard days, and the bond becomes so familial.
