2024-05-19 10:55:47 +0000 UTCI love Richie! This dude ended up way more complex than I expected. I hated him at first but then loved him for the comic relief he adds to this stressful show. But then you see layers in him like how he breaks his facade when talking to or about his daughter. I cried happy tears for his dedicated episode in season 2. Hope Lee and crew like that one once they get to it.

I couldn't stand him first episode, but it was very hard to keep hating him. He's a likeable guy, albeit annoying. A lot of bark, but barely any bite. You could probably sweet talk that man to mush. Also loving the dynamic between him and Sydney. AND, can we talk about how amazing Sydney is??? Tell me if you know anyone who just immediately makes themselves a perfect piece of the puzzle on their first day (days?) on the job? Just love how she jumped right into the craziness.

There's always something going on everywhere--interruptions while you're speaking--multiple conflicting conversations going on at once, all in the setting of a busy kitchen while a business has to be run. Every time I watch this show, it resonates with me because I'm a pastry nerd. I went to culinary school to fulfill a dream. It always breaks my heart when people like Carmy and Sydney aren't always seen for their passion for cooking and food. They've gotta deal with people like Richie who mocks the very thing they love to do.

Also, that was Joel McHale and it is so good how he’s such a great comedian and you have him in here being the biggest asshole ever. It’s fantastic. I really liked how Lee dissected Richie in the end discussion cause he’s hitting so many points. You guys will love the show more and more each episode.

2024-05-18 02:01:54 +0000 UTCWhen your best friend unalives themselves there's a level of remorse and survivor's guilt beyond just grief. He saw his friend everyday and didn't know he was in danger. That's what Richie is dealing with, aside from being displaced as a father and a husband. And now he's displaced by Carmy in the restaurant. It would be easy to think he just resents Carmy for being his best friend's brother. But there are other complex layers, like that if Carmy had been around maybe Michael wouldn't have acted the way he did. Also, Carmy achieved a level of professional success that Richie never has. And finally, Richie has to depend on someone else to fill the fixer role (a central part of his self identity) because he can't fix this. If you can't tell, I really love this show. Season 2 is better than season 1, which is rare to say about television shows. I can't wait for season 3. I kinda wish you all dropped an episode daily so that you can catch up.
