Director my friend, its REALLY Simple why we all hate mecha, but at the same time love iron man. 99.99% of mecha stuff is so stiupidly over the top, and unpractical with real-world logic its compleately unrealistic to ever have, so its in the same box as super powers and magic, and is simply lame when compared to them. Iron Man however, as crazy as it sounds is something we TECHNICLY can make work, so its the Batman appeal of "TECHNICLY" I can be this guy...it will never ever happen, but its the power optainable enough to make our monkey brain happy...aaaaaand then you add that TECHNICLY some madmans already made first steps for working iron Man suit (no weapons, obviously, just the flying part, and with heavy limitations), so there is that

When it comes to the ship and the nanofibers, the massacre on that ship was a tragedy but at the end of the day this is WAR and they were traitors to humanity. They were a cult who worshipped aliens who are coming to conquer humanity. If the people on that ship were arrested or detained and then eventually released, the rest of humanity could never fully trust them again.
