"But I," all in all, is an ode to a past that is being let go of. It can easily be interpreted as the end of one's relationship that essentially crashed and burned enough to leave nothing but hate. But imagery, like Solar dragging herself on the horse and it turning into a mirror and the mirror showing a different possibility with the horse dead, implies a self reflection. Like Solar is letting go of a part of herself that she now hates. "I'm happy to be reborn" feels so on the nose.
