Cid's two second attention span would get him distracted by the shiny silver coins and he wouldn't be able to pay attention long enough to understand how Shadow Garden rode through the economic downturn and bankrupted the bank of the Cult of Diabolos.

That is the part where people might get bored, but it's good to know how this world of merchants work. For anyone new to this story, it will not just be about the trading and value of coins so don't worry the story will progress to different things. In a way Spice and Wolf is all around in many things, best part being that it has stuff like this which no other show has.
