yeah im pre sure they was trying to find a way for us to empathise for her reasoning of evil in some way in the show for sure. they kinda threw it in at the end of the fatherless aspect etc

2024-03-30 01:22:55 +0000 UTCI disagree with your perspective LOL, as it only shows Sumin's portrayal in the kdrama, overlooking her in the Webtoon (which is personally better, much more brutal and less soapy etc), In the Webtoon Sumin lacks the backstory and the obsession with Ji-Won and family, I don't think "other half" was even mentioned once in the webtoon. Instead, she's depicted as simply evil, fixated on taking everything from anyone, not just Ji-Won.

Sumin was a great character though, she felt like the Joker in a sense where the duality of hate and love for Ji-Won kinda broke her mind. In her mind she was doing "everything" for her "other half" and was confused as to why everyone thought she was crazy or the villain.

2024-03-28 16:55:54 +0000 UTCAlso one of the things that makes Sumin a compelling and complex character to a lot of people is at first you’re very curious as to why she’s so attached to jiwon while backstabbing her constantly throughout the show. It’s not until we see her backstory that we get an actual better understanding of why she is the way she is in general and especially towards jiwon. I genuinely believe that sumin feelings towards jiwon are a mix between love and hate. I do believe a part of her actually cares for jiwon however due to the circumstances surrounding her parents separation and jiwon’s own mother playing a part in that . That love and hate feeling became more and more unstable and toxic
