One thing I couldn’t help but notice the writing for aang is terrible but the writing for Zuko is amazing I feel like 80% of the time Aang says words it’s either him explaining he’s the avatar explaining his name or telling us that he is fun rather than doing anything fun and then Zuko on the other hand does not tell us he’s out casted, but we see it he doesn’t tell us he is honorable, we see it he doesn’t tell us he cares more about his uncle than the avatar, but we see it every time there’s something to show on Zuko’s character we see it but if it’s about the avatar or Katara, we don’t see it they just tell us. Literally, they’re talking about the Avatar with the two water benders and make references to episodes in the animated show during the bar scene when asking for information and they just tell us about stuff they do instead of showing us absolutely anything. I love how much they show on Zuko being out casted standing on his morals being a brat and rash instead of somebody just telling us the entire time that he’s all this, I just wish they would’ve took some of those writers that did that with Zuko and told them to help out the people writing for the avatar who is just a monologue the entire time Zuko and uncle Iroh are probably the best things about this show like they actually cared to do some decent writing for them Avatar and gang is just CliffsNotes fast food version of avatar

2024-03-01 17:52:05 +0000 UTCThe Kyoshi novels (which are awesome, by the way) touch on this topic. Her mom was an airbender (which is why Kyoshi and the Kyoshi warriors use fans, by the way), and her dad was an earthbender. Because the Earth Kingdom is so large and they were constantly moving around on her mom's bison, no one knew who the real Avatar was for a long time. Additionally, they were searching for Earth Kingdom children of a certain age since they knew when the previous Avatar died, but Kyoshi's size for her age caused her to be overlooked, leading people to mistakenly identify another kid as the Avatar, lol.

Like this episode felt like a filler episode but live action. But to the original fans it’s also a bunch of plots mashed together and also left out. I feel like they wanted a way to show everything they possibly could this first season just to do it as a “ we did it” kind of thing 😂

2024-03-01 08:21:58 +0000 UTCI love Adorkable crushing on Zuko and Azula. I like the idea of Azula's flames not being blue yet but you can see the potential for growth. When it comes to magic systems limitations is a good thing. I thought that the fact that Aang can only talk to past avatars at their shrines was a good limitation. But I thought about it longer and found it made no sense. Aang has an innate spiritual connection to past Avatars because he is the reincarnation of past Avatars and the Avatar State channels past Avatars, so why shrines?

2024-03-01 05:43:49 +0000 UTCRegarding your discussion at the end, after the avatar dies, they are reincarnated right away. It usually just takes some time to identify them. After Roku died, Aang was born, but for the 12 years he was alive, only the monks knew he was the avatar, and they didn't tell him or anyone else because it's customary to wait until the avatar turns 16 to reveal them.

2024-03-01 04:59:54 +0000 UTCNot my worst, but yeah, a lot of people don't like the decisions in this one. Random Won Shi Tong? Are we skipping the library episode then? We don't do anything at all with Hei Bai, and he's just a monster. Koh doesn't steal faces when you show emotion anymore, otherwise Katara and Sokka would've lost theirs, and Aang meets him before he gets an explanation. Also, we're dealing with this plot, then we have to detour all the way to the Fire Nation to talk to Roku, taking away more time that these characters could be bonding. It's all over the place.
