See this ia the problem I have with live actions. This series as a standalone is actually amazing. If you never watched The Avatar or only vaguely knew of it the CG and and everything looks good. But if you watched Avatar than you can't help but compare and it's unfair because the anime/cartoon (in this case) will always be better. I'd say this so far is like a 5/10 for a live action but a 8 1/2 out of 10 series.

Out of the 4 episodes I’ve watched this one was the easiest to get through . Every other one drained me . I felt exhausted and overstimulated after and during watching the other episodes. I don’t know I feel like they were trying to include too many storylines into each episode , the 20 min formula worked a lot better . I’ll watch the last 4 episodes with y’all though because I don’t think I can watch those twice , yet .

I loved it, I was right there saying it with her. It was a good moment because we heard it every episode in the cartoon and didn’t get it in the beginning of this episode. I was slightly disappointed; then Gran Gran hits us with the bars. How could I not? Lol

yeah I didn't enjoy this live action, I had hopes cause of OPLA but this one was just a bunch of cgi and it took away almost everything I loved about the original, just my opinion tho, I know they didn't have a lot of time but I wish they would've let the characters breathe instead of all the cringe monologues and exposition, sorry for ranting I appreciate your reactions and input

Fascinating. I think the movie wanted to avoid getting mixed up haha so it avoided having Avatar in it. But another interesting things. Avatar is a type of incarnation. Hence the the movie being called Avatar cuz they guy was incarnated into an Alien body and the logic is similar in gaming when you control you “avatar”. Its your digital incarnation

I’m enjoying the show so far, seems good to me (only finished 2 episodes). But it definitely does feel rushed and the scene with Gran Gran was incredibly cringe to have her recite the original intro word for word. 😬

Right. It's the word Avatar that fueled my mini rabbit hole. Yes, I've seen all the movies but never watched the animated version. I've seen Korra as well. I just never paid attention to the significance of the word Avatar as it relates to the character. I'm happy this happened because now when Avatar is used in a title or content, I won't automatically connect it to the blue people bwahaha. The original movie title was The Last Airbender. It did not incorporate Avatar in it.

Some of the dialogue and exposition was killing me. Aang needs to be more fun. I like Sokka so far with the comedy. From what I remember from the original series, Aang literally ran away and got caught up in a storm. In this, Aang just went for a ride. Also, There is No War in Ba Sing Se.

You got me together with 8 words. Too funny. In all honesty, forgive my ignorance for I did not know it said that. I knew little about the meaning of Avatar until I was prompted by your response to do a little research. Sorry, I'm autodidactic and my brain will not settle until I find resolve but I digress. So Avatar means decedent of or the incarnation of a powerful deity. You learn something new every day. The original movie title did not incorporate Avatar in the title. Now you know soon as I saw Avatar in your post title is was looking for Blue people. LOL...luv ou guys to pieces...

I read the caption. Was really just echoing some of the replies to get Director to watch the original animated series since he's only seen Korra. Lol. Apologies, I probably could have worded that better in my initial comment. Lol. Gave my personal opinion on the live action series. The "your mileage may vary" was intended to be a more generalized statement for anyone reading it. With the knowledge in mind that there are some out there who never watched the animated series. That way if this is the first they're seeing this series, I don't invalidate their opinions if they enjoy this live action adaptation. :)

I'm personally hoping and pleading that they will do a re-watch. It's such a beloved and iconic(a touchstone) series for a lot of people.

This adaptation is like a 6/10 from what I have seen. Possibly 7/10. It is far better than the majority of Netflix adaptations like Cowboy Bebop. But doesn't quite reach the same heights as the One Piece Live Action. I wasn't that into OPLA but that is due more to my own preference. It was clearly made by passionate people who embraced the show while still putting their own spin on it. ATLA LA also seems to be made by passionate people who clearly liked the source material. Yet I couldn't shake this overall feeling that they were trying to "improve" the animated show. Like there was this subconscious thought that the OG was "good for a kid show". It wasn't terrible like that movie that never got made but it wasn't as good as the OG. It's just there.

I would highly recommend the animated series as a reaction series in the future. So far, from what I've watched of this show so far, I'm personally not impressed. But your mileage may vary.

Director has only seen Korra? What kinda blasphemy is this? Gonna get my shame bell and ring it at him like they did Cersei until he watches it 😆 Avatar gets great numbers to this day on youtube. Ya'll should react to it since director hasn't seen it, capitalize on the hype of the live action.
