He said he *couldn't bring her back tho. The whole issue with her going is that she could never come back, which makes death being the other side make sense.

So we can assume he was supposed to have red hair too. What if, to dehumanize him more and strip away his since of identity even more; his captures shaved his hair to break his will more and show he has no family or anything to go back to.
