He's over and over shown that failure in his eyes means death. If you're a Quincy and you don't want to die then your goal is to prove yourself and come out on top by any means you have to take. Even if it's friendly fire.

And royal palace would be heaven … soul society and hueco mundo are indeed in betweens along with living realm to decide one’s fate after (true bleach death)…… ( non of this was spoiler again as by this point it’s all been revealed in some form)

I honestly think it would have made his chances of survival even worse being so big and unwieldy (unless he had activated it earlier so it could charge fully).

My theory is because they don't want Yhwach to get unreasonably stronger and to be part of the chosen quincies not to be absorbed by Yhwach. Remember what the Blonde dude (Jugram) said to Uryu. Yhwach can only return to being the father of quincies when he sleeps. This means if any quincy die while Yhwach, in his current form, is awake, then it's implied that Yhwach won't be able to absorb the soul of the dead quincies. To further prove the point, when James died(the first quincy to truly die in this cour since Bambi was technically killed and then turned to a zombie) Yhwach absrobed the reishi and then immediately went to sleep.
