The GOAT Kenpachi strikes again! Been waiting for this fight for years, tbh! It was so satisfying to see it animated. Now it's time for Musical's factoid corner: -Gremmy can't use his powers on someone with a stronger mental will then him. Hence why he couldn't effect Kenpachi's body like with Yachiru. If he had the gaslighting capability of Light Yagami from Death Note, it would be GG. Also. As mentioned in previous comments, his ability was so feared that he was locked up which in turn stunted his ability. -The VA for Gremmy also voices Tanjiro from Demon Slayer, Vanitas from The Case Study Of Vanitas, Ken from Tokyo Ghoul and 9S from Nier among other voices. -Bleach was the last of the big three to have a meteor scene. The chapter where Madara drops a meteor was released in manga in 2011, One Piece had one that appeared in 2013 (Fujitora), and the chapter for this was released in 2014

Liked this villain. Sounded like the voice actor who did kaneki from tokyo ghoul. Don't like the little girl that kenpachi is with. I just find her annoying. Her entire character I would be happier without seeing. Edit: Mainly because I see her as a character that completely takes away from the serious stuff going on and the way she acts just doesn't fit at all. Its like I go from watching bleach to watching a show for toddlers. Don't take my comments too seriously tho.

Also its just that multiple characters end up being cool but barely get any spotlight. Unohana, the 2nd in command for head captain, multiple other characters that are here but get left behind. Its like am I supposed to care about characters who I know nothing about up until the short time that they have on screen where they get something for their character? I did not care about unohana and multiple other characters. I found that kenpachi episode in the first part to be just alright at best. Multiple good characters that get the spotlight but multiple cool characters who get barely anything. I know it sounds like harsh critiquing but its just from a judgmental perspective of the writing. I enjoy bleach without thinking about those things so I am fine with that.

I find shit like having "higher spiritual pressure" to be bullshit when it is up against someone who can change reality in a certain radius around him. It definitely felt like a let down. Kenpachi is strong. We get it. Nothing new. You bring in a cool character that can literally change reality and his "strength" is what made him win. Cause it was his strength to begin with that caused him to think he was a monster. If you give a character cool more unique powers it shouldn't have been wasted like this. This is why I have problems with bleach. A lot of stuff feels like asspulls or cop outs. I like bleach and like the characters but defending the writing is just not at all a logical thing to do. If you can't see the multiple asspulls/cop outs the series goes through you are just too biased toward the show. That isn't to say that all of the writing isn't good. I think he did a pretty decent job with certain things in the series. Its just when you argue that bleach is some kind of masterpiece or has top tier writing you are delusional.

This fight always rubbed me the wrong way. I love that it gave Kenpachi a chance to shine but I always felt Gremmy's powers were too interesting to use on a guy like Kenpachi. Gremmy losing because Kenny's powers were too strong for his body just feels like a cop out. Especially considering Gremmy's whole body was fake to begin with. Maybe it's just me but this seems like it deserved some special tactic to beat. One of my biggest complaints about Kubo is that he is great at setting up hype scenarios but is not always great with the payoffs and conclusions.

Bleach is really dropping the ball. I use to be excited to watch new episode but I’m slowly not caring anymore. How they going to treat bleach like this and rush it. It’s disappointing as a bleach fan.

The reason they are rushing through the episodes is to add a lot of anime original content for cour 3 and 4 (parts of the manga that were rushed due to kubos illness). You can checkout the manga for the content you see in cour 1 and 2. This Gremmy fight was a lot longer in the manga and it was a back and forth fight

The problem I have with these Quincies is that most of them kinda got barely any background and feel like random hollow level enemies instead of big bosses like Espadas. Other than the 7th Espada, every other Espada got multi episodes to set up their powers, dominance, backstory and eventually defeat. Though old Bleach had some dragged out episodes, recently these TYBW ep have been a bit TOO fast. Especially this one. Someone as powerful as Gremmy you would think would appear later plus have a much longer fight to showcase Zaraki's endless resilience to even the power of imagination. It almost feels like im watching episodic Bleach of 1v1s instead of a whole story. Some captains/vice captains are being used as power scaling tools instead of more creative ways to showcase their abilities. Kubo def rushed the hell out of this arc which is why I cant put it as number 1. As hype and crazy fights goes, this takes the cake. But everything else....not so much

So, it's interesting that you say it felt "rushed" because the blazing speed of this episode was absolutely the intent of how they animated it (if not an unavoidable reality). In the manga... this fight was LONG. It took up 5 chapters, which is about what you'd expect for an important fight. 5 chapters is a lot to adapt for one episode... but also it's all fighting and set piecing, which occurs in a much faster time space when animated than when drawn out in a panel format. So while you felt the episode was "rushed" a common complaint from manga readers was that this fight "dragged on" (mostly from every chapter ending with Gremmie doing a "nuh uh no you didn't" to Kenpachi).

there was plenty. relevant dialogue from the beginning with Fake V, then more relevant information/backstory from Gremmy, then Some sternritters talking about Gremmy etc. why he is a liability/crazy powerhouse. THEN Soldats, sternritters Shinigamis shitting their pants when the Meteor starts coming down. Jugram panicking to take cover/ protect Yhuwach. Theres alot, at the end of the mini arc chapters, readers should have felt something about Gremmy, in the anime? nada, good thing u dead! just that. It was moreso for the hype of the Kenpachi.

They cut a fair bit of dialogue (especially the other Quincy's thoughts of Gremmy.) He was truly busted. Such a liability they kept him locked up. If he was given time to grow and experience more of the world he would have been unstoppable!

Y’all had it at the end there’s the normal sword no ability’s, Shikai your normal abilities with a change of sword and Bankai but for some reason yachiru Shikai is different because it doesn’t change her sword
