Its basically used to address someone of a junior status than u at its core. E.g. a senior male worker or boss can address his female subordinate "kun" in a formal setting, a father can also call her daughter kun which is more respectful in a way. thats abt all i know, but there's probably more to it like how appropriate it is in certain settings and situations.
