Toxic fans are everywhere in every entertainmemt industry. Football fans have toxic fans too. I can't relate with what you said because i only take the positive side of it. If the negetivity affects your love of being a fan to a certain group then you need to stay away for your mental health. it's not worth it.

Jude

Seventeen fandom is healthiest LMAO. Where??? A hater in disguise. It seems you have really bad beef with ARMY that made you even comment about bts music changing to more pop side but the funny thing is the whole kpop is inspired by US pop. How ignorant your statement looked. I've been into kpop since 2006 seen it all but artist like bts is a once a life time. Hard pill for you to swallow.

Jude

BTS is hands down my favorite group. They write and produce all of their own music, and span all genres. Most importantly, they good people. All of the music comes with message and meaning, and they stand for something. The hate they get is real - from even before they got to the top. I won’t lie, their English tracks are my least favorite. But their discography is extensive and there’s a lot for you to choose from depending on what you wanna listen to. The dancing is also on point and intense, which you have to check out. So buckle up :) But I really hope you will give them a shot 💜

erinshima

@ karel, i love love love seventeen but i think it's absolutely insane how their fandom gets self labeled as the "healthiest" or "peaceful" fandom when that's not true at all 😭 the way fandoms see their own community is always so interesting.

maha

EDIT: I'm sorry. I told myself I have to try not to judge or look down on people as much anymore. I can't change how you view life. Do you. Have a good day.

Snax

i love gdragon but that's so funny lmaoooo. you should memorize all members of all kpop groups from now on if you dont wanna get doxxed!

Karel

calling me narrow-minded for having an opinion that's not same as yours? i said i enjoyed their older music, and you're already so triggered? i wonder how you live your everyday life. more maturity to you. hope you can learn that sometimes opinions can differ and that doesnt mean you're more "broad minded" than everyone else. being "broad minded" means respecting other opinions, no matter how different from yours, you know. EDIT ALSO: cool, we really shouldn't care about people's opinion on music. music preferences should be a personal thing. i called you triggered bc a simple opinion that's not even directed at you set you off. but maybe that wasn;t the right term and i'm sorry as well.

Karel

i don't think that's a matter of maturity and immaturity. let's be honest, kpop as a genre, has always been intended not just to attract people through music but through the idols itself and how they try very much to interact with their fans. that's why they do variety shows, vlives, fanmeets. so when you try to immerse yourself into the music side of these groups, you also get a glimpse of what happens around their music. for example it gets irritating when you see particular fandoms harrassing other artists online. sometimes you can't help but get turned off from the whole group because kpop culture is having these fandoms associated with their idols.

Karel

Your comment makes no sense. Kpop literally derived their genre and inspiration from western music. BTS hasn't changed their sound. They added to it. Their newer albums hold the same feel as their older ones. They made 'poppy' music in the past like they make hiphop music currently. Their albums have always been a mix of different genres. EDIT: I'm sorry if you thought I was rude before. I'm trying to be better. I don't think calling me triggered was correct, as I don't particularly care if you like BTS or not. I was making a rebuttal to what I saw as narrow minded thinking. I think if you want to make an argument, you can't always just call people triggered if they don't agree with your opinion either. You came off a little hypocritical with that statement as well. Anyway, have a good day I suppose

Snax

What some fans say don't reflect the talent or the quality of the artist. You need to be able to separate the music from the fanbase. I wouldn't listen to any music or watch most western dramas if I couldn't separate fan from content. EDIT: I'm sorry if what I said may have come off as rude. I hope you have a day.

I made a spreadsheet for my fave channel: title tracks, B-sides, award show performances, solo tracks (all with official MVs, lyric videos, live performances, and dance practices where applicable) in chronological order. They started last summer and they are hooked. They went in all willy-nilly and was reacting to shit out of order. Made my teeth itch. So I volunteered to their BTS guide. 😭 Now they’re watching Run episodes on their Patreon.

I asked “who the hell is G-Dragon” and got death threats, called the n-word, and they attempted to doxx me. K-pop in general, and largely by design, has toxic fandoms.

Podcast Fandom Premium

It always some butthurt older K-pop stan, too. Like, I’m sorry your group from the early aughts didn’t do all of this.

Podcast Fandom Premium

This is a great idea and happy medium! I approve of this option!

Mochi

literally the BTS hole haha there's this Jhope meme I need to find that's like "me wanting to know their names" then "me becoming a forever fan" and it's him getting sucked into a waterslide lmao

Mochi

honestly I wanna gatekeep them cause I know people are gonna get toxic. Fandom or not, people always have something to say about them and it makes it hard for me as an OG ARMY because literally the second I mention that I am a BTS fan, people stop taking me seriously and disregard my taste because of their anti BTS lens. It's pretty gross...but at the same time, you can't just ignore BTS if you're gonna react to BlackPink when they're both just as important to Kpop's rapid growth internationally. TBH I would also suggest some Psy and Wonder Girls, Big Bang, and 2ne1 as a 2nd gen kpop fan.

Mochi

It is for this reason that I don't listen to anything from kpop even though I like kdrama, the fan base becomes a bit toxic no matter what group it belongs to xD

albert rodriguez

Honestly though the biggest thing I've noticed is that the people who say they hate BTS are just ignorant and hate them just because they're popular. And it actually confuses me how you can hate someone you don't even know. I also don't understand people who say they just don't like their type of music when their discography is so diverse. It truly just proves that people hate just to hate, which is ironic because they have a song just for people like that.

Snax

lol same. it's interesting because there are kpop groups with a lot of scary stans and you have groups like "seventeen" who has the healtiest fandoms. 😂

Karel

"thats what happens when you appeal to the masses, globally" exactly. i became a kpop fan back in 2008 because i genuinely enjoy the kpop feel. when they adapted to american pop, i felt out of love with them. but they def deserve all their achievements.

Karel

All artists will change and evolve as they get up in age. BTS really has some old classical bangers! :) Even BTS themselves said once they broke into the US and did butter, permission to dance etc; they said they didn't even know who they were anymore. That's what happens when you appeal to the masses, globally. They deserve their recognition and even if you don't like their music now, it's made them who they are today let's pray for 2025 once they comeback after serving in the military.

Amanda P

I love BTS! It's all I listen to lmfao. I'm not super crazy psycho though going around bashing other k pop groups. I'm too old for that shit lol. I have listened to other groups which have good, catchy, cute music but I always stick to BTS. I have listened to Blackpink and they're great and beautiful but personally I can't listen to their music because I just can't relate to it or feel a connection to it: it doesn't tug at my heart and doesn't give me deep meaning. All personal preference though. Have fun in your journey! I've met many men who didn't want to react to BTS at first cause they think it's for screaming girls (lol) or they're just uncomfortable with that whole culture (boys wearing makeup or w.e the case is) but you can look past it and accept and embrace other cultures and what's considered normal there. They have amazing vocalists and rappers I think you'd find it cool, their music is very artistic.

Amanda P

Idk man the bts super fans scare me with how vindictive they are over the smallest perceived slight against them or the group

Grelk

Lol I love the spite. Honestly as a long time Kpop fan they have a very fond spot in my heart. They’re very wholesome people and their music is very diverse. It would really be interesting to see how you feel about their music.

Narutofreak94

I totally feel the same way, now they music is just not doing it for me anymore.

Dj

I almost don’t want him to try because of all the BS comments. People are being weirdos.

Podcast Fandom Premium

i loved bts' music before they went to the us. after they went global, their music (at least the title tracks) got too pop-py for me. dope, fire, and blood sweat and tears are my favorites.

Karel

I respect it. old me creeps up on when pop boy bands pop up. If we ain't talking MJ I ain't about the pop.

The Law_v1001

lmao

Rock Lee

I try and listen ha, old me would not

Rock Lee

I hear ya, I been tactically thinking about how i can listen to songs i like and still do blind reactions to other songs so this seems to be a nice fit. I haven't listened to a new Kpop song since Sunday lol...I will keep listening to the older "underrated" artists and React to the popular ones BLIND. if folks are interested in seeing us react to music videos to songs I like, that option can remain. But i have limited time to record a music video reaction. I was maneuvering to find balance

Rock Lee

Remember what Jerry said to Elaine when he turned down tickets to see Mel Tormé? That’s kinda my take on it, but y’all have fun😅

Connoisseur

Just here to say, Lee where are those Taylor Swift reactions? XD

Princeofmars93

BTS is an incredible group. People hate popular things because they don't want to admit they are late to something good. BTS is one of the only K-pop groups I can honestly say deserve all the hype they get. The group is self-made and single-handedly raised a nearly bankrupt company into a multimillion-dollar organization. The fandom tends to be very protective over the boys (which is not the group's fault anyways) because of all the hardships they've faced. I saw a comment once that worded it perfectly: BTS paved the way whether people want to admit it or not. The proof is in all the statistics. The problem with paving the way is that people want to discredit you because they have also worked hard. But your struggle is unique because you had to endure all the pain first. You had to be the test subject for everyone's love and hatred. You had to create solutions to problems nobody before you had to; that is BTS. That is why BTS more than deserve to be given a chance.

Ellie

I haven't vibed with majority of their group releases in a long while. Probably since around 2019. They've lost/stopped doing a lot of what I enjoy about kpop, so they're just not exciting or intereseting to me anymore. But before that, I liked them quite a bit. And their solo stuff is also more intriguing

strange& sleepless

Their pre-2019 music is really good imo

xtina

honestly all the boy band groups deserve a reaction to form your own opinion they all have fandoms the most popular leading international one was bts which is why they tend to form a lot of easy hate but the more the better. the more content and good music out there. keep the options open!

respect

Bts makes great music and the plus for me it’s that they are one of the few groups that make their own music, if the fandom is what you are afraid about no worries, Army is very supportive as long as you stay open minded and respectful(which I know so far you guys have been) you don’t have to like every song since everybody has different taste and some things are not for everyone, however like every fandom out there Army has that 1% that’s toxic (we don’t claim them lol) but you don’t have to react to them if you don’t want to I personally enjoy discovering new groups thanks to you lol

CheshiereCatt

If y'all actually react to them respect because you listen to the people. I can't do it. Music might be 🔥 but I lived through insync and the backstreets boys. AND I AIN'T GOING BACK-Mike Lowery

The Law_v1001

99% of commenters will be positive and super supportive though. Its the 1% that are insane and I've never seen such online hatred in my life until then. As long as you dont let the 1% get to you, then definitely a good journey to check them out.

Jessica

Let me start my comment with this warning: If you would like to revist your early OP days but worse, that is the best way to warn you so you know what your getting yourself into LOL. BTS definitely has great music, just have to find your style since they do like every genre. There are songs I'll skip since its just not my preferred genre, but the ones I like, I LOVE. I kind of wish you don't react to BTS, and just listen on your own, since its only going to bring more negativity. Though mainly the youtube side of things. Most Patrons should be fine (I hope). We already get enough of that with some of the anime communities. Haters literally comment on EVERYTHING BTS related and when people come to defend BTS or engage, it gets out of control. BTS is my favorite group, I have a whole bookcase dedicated to their merch in my office, but the negativity online that it brings is just not what I need in my life lool. Definitely a very small minority of people are haters but a loud minority which can really take a toll mentally. The kpop and kdrama communities are VASTLY different lol.

Jessica

To “try” bts is to trip and fall into a rabbit hole miles deep no matter the sexuality lol

raeven b.

They make amazing music—their discography is massive, and very diverse in genre. Their roots are hip hop, but they delve in everything. Most of their world famous tracks are their most recent English-speaking titles Butter, Dynamite, and Permission to Dance—but none of those are my type of music (too happy lol) but they were made to be feel good songs during covid, so it’s understandable. The thing about bts is that they’re much bigger than their music. They speak a very inspiring message and they live by it. They’re the most humble celebrities I’ve ever known. They have a lot of content outside of their music that just makes it very hard not to like them as people. I’ve been into kpop since 2005, so I love a lot of artists and a lot of music, but I’ve never loved a group as hard as I have for these boys lol

raeven b.

yesss. bts are one of the most hated artist in the world and just so happen to be my favorite artist. i wonder what you’ll react to first, by request? in order? etc.

tanasia

They do!!! You should definitely check out Ateez as well! They’re also an amazing boy group
