With that sentence cant tell if heβs describing one person or his captain and another person. Especially considering heβs running a parallel with king who made a promise only to his captain.

The anime doesn't go deep into Zoro's linage unfortunately. However, Oda did reveal in his Q&A (where he puts info that he couldn't, for whatever reason put in the story) Zoro's family tree: The old man that made Enma left wano about 60 yrs ago, when he left he took some people with him. One of them was the sister of the guy with blue hair in Yamatos flashback, that we all thought might have been Zoro's father; he's not. He is actually Zoro's Great-Uncle. That guys sister is Zoro's Grand-Mother. She met a guy in the East Blue named. Roronoa Pinzoro. They had a son named Roronoa Arashi (Zoro's Father). Arashi had a baby with a bandit named Terra (Zoro's mother). Their child is the future greatest swordsman in the world Zoro. Zoro's mother died of illness and his father died fighting to pirates. It sucks that this will never actually be in the story but glad we got it in some form. Short of it Ryuma (Ancestor) ->Shimotsuki Furiko & Roronoa Pinzoro (Grand-parents)-> Roronoa Arashi & Terra (Parents)-> Zoro
