I'm pretty late on this, but y'all are really good at theorizing and paying attention to stuff. Compared to many other reacters y'all did amazing on noticing some details and stuff. I've never seen anyone else point out the reason he freezes up when Ai is injured is he already knows it's not survivable.

And maybe even lying about having raw sex is an act of true love. When she got pregnant and told him that she had their love's proof, and she wanted to keep the babies, he panicked and thought about ways to get rid of the babies. The fan killing the doctor is just an accident. Thus why he didn't find out about the fan immediately. Since he can't get rid of the babies, he thought about getting rid of her instead. He may took a few years to find out about the crazy obsessed fan, hence why the fan only appear during that day and not before.

So I see what you're saying, considering Ai was still on good talking terms with him she clearly liked him. In that case the only reason why it wouldn't be rape would be if the father was also not an adult at the time they conceived. Idk if the father was an an adult or not. I'm completely assuming the father was an adult based on how the story is shining a light on the dark side of the industry. To counter your points, if he was an adult it wouldn't matter if she was still talking to him or if he wasn't in jail. First, I could very easily see an adult male that has a lot of experience and know-how in the entertainment industry to have lots of power, fame, and money so he could easily escape the grasp of the law through knowing people, using money, or just is clever enough at avoiding the law. Especially since the episode built up how mysterious this person is and how they were able to plan and execute Ai's murder and have it not tie back to him at all. If the police can't connect him for a murder there's no way they're gonna connect him for rape. Second, if he's an adult, even though Ai was on good talking terms and wanted to talk to him and share her children's growth him him, I still think its rape / nonconsensual. Throughout the 2nd half of this episode we're shown when Ai is talking to the manager that she had a lack of parents (growing up in a children's home, her mom abandoning her) and it led to her having stunted emotional growth: she never felt like she had any love and as a result felt incapable of loving others in return. This leads to her behavior of constantly chasing after love. She says it herself, "I wanted to love someone" and "I wanted to say 'I love you' and have it come from the bottom of my heart.' I think based on this and other information it's very clear from a psychological point of view that Ai was someone who was emotionally neglected and was subconsciously seeking some form of love. This could be romantic love through her babies' father, familial love with her kids, or even a kind of adoration or platonic love with her fans and audience. Regardless, my point is: a 16 year old is not going to be fully aware of why she's feeling the way she is and her subconscious need for love and her 'youthful attractiveness' would have made her an easy EASY target for a male in power in the entertainment industry. I have no doubts there are those kinds of people preying on younger immature women who they just want to fuck and move on when the girl's too old the next year. Ai could be 16, want her to keep her children and love them (which she does), as well as talk to her kid's father (which she does also), but it could still be rape if he's an adult who took advantage of her since we already knew how she was vulnerable as a child. As a real life example, although incredibly depressing, I recently read Jennette McCurdy's memoir. When she was a young child working as an actress for iCarly, she was also preyed upon by older men and because of how her mother emotionally neglected her and because she's just a young child who doesn't have the experience to avoid people who only want to use her. She was unaware of what she was doing was hurting her, even if at the time she was 'consenting' to it. That is just one reason of the many reasons why a child cannot engage in consensual sex with an adult ever. TL,DR: If Ai's baby daddy was a fully functional adult at the time they had the kid, it's rape. Otherwise, if he was around Ai's age at the time, not rape. But I'm an anime-only so my baseline assumption is Ai was raped by an older man.

College people are busy with their college and people who actually work are too busy with their work. Characters are made to be in highschool so that their main demographic can relate to the characters. There are seinen for older people but they are not as popular as shonen anime.
