Tips on improving rooms

I very often build something and think "this is nice", but I often will feel like something is off, or that something is missing. This was certainly the case for the dining room I made in my recent build. I thought it could be useful to go through some of the changes I made to improve the room.

First, a good balance is key to making a good layout for a room, you don't want anything feeling "odd". In the upper picture I initially had lower windows, but the gap between the top part of the ceiling and the windows made the ceiling look like it was too far down. It made the upper part of the windowed wall very heavy looking. By increasing the height of the windows so that it's the same width as that between the windows we can achieve a more balanced look.

In addition, the wall on the right was very blank in the first picture, and meant that a lot of interest was taken away from the windowed wall. A good option in this case is to add something that goes into the wall, to create depth. Storage (as shown) or a door is a good option in this case!

If you have a wood flooring and wood furniture it's sometimes good to add a rug to create contrast between the two wood textures.

I hope you guys found this a bit informative, and remember, if you don't feel happy with a design you can always rework it or polish it up! :)
