To add cultural context to the “headsman who will sword dance with me”: They translated it as “Headsman”, but a 망나니 (Mangnani) is an executioner. The practice of execution in the Joseon dynasty was to present poison for the accused to ingest themselves, giving them the dignity to kill themselves and preserve the body for a funeral. But to be beheaded was a punishment reserved for the worst of offences, such taking place in a rebellion against the king. It was dishonorable to have your body mutilated, and to top it off, it was carried out by a mangnani. They were not warriors or noble people. They were the near the bottom of the social caste along with butchers, for they were people who worked with blood. They wouldn’t carry out the beheading in a quick fashion, but drag out the process by dancing around the accused with the sword, dragging out the dread of which of his movements will be their last. Her saying “I don’t need a prince, but a mangnani” is saying “I need someone who will do the dirty work with me” but ALSO a commentary that about class dynamics once again.

When I started this with you guys I thought moon would be plotting and scheming and building up her plan then just annihilate them in the last couple of episodes. But it looks like we lost one of the big players at the halfway point. Do you think we could get rid of one every episode now?

I am 1000% behind that, like a gazillion 1000% but lordt help me, i am also1000% behind being torn between these two men, Mr delicious hella scary CEO and Mr happy go lucky on the surface slightly psycho doctor TT. Like why must they both be so perfect for her?!! Anyway thanks for the reaction, you make it more fun watching it again through your lens
