I don't know if this is way too late to bring up, but the opening credits is a visual representation of the targaryen family tree. It starts with old valyria and passes down the generation's to the current characters in the show. Its also been adding symbols as the show goes on to include the kids.

I’m going to say that I believe the kings daughter force him to marry so quick. I blame rhaenyra for the king making a rash decision. If she’s hadn’t left and made the king realize that he has no other heir and his line was weak, he wouldn’t have been in such a rush and waiting for the little girl to grow up a little.

The reason why Viserys chose Alicent is because he decided to follow his heart. Remember Otto sent her to the king on the night his wife died when he was at his lowest. They have been meeting/ hanging out for almost 6 months. Even when they were eating dinner their chairs were right next to each other. Otto planted his daughter as a seed from day one and watched their relationship grow. Then Otto told him marrying because of duty isnt fair to him. So he should follow his heart. He set the alley oop for Alicent and she dunked it when she told Veserys that she is sure the new queen would be good and kind. Then she proceeded to give him that gift, and his first words were "Alicent you are kind". Otto and Alicent were playing the long game. By the time Lord Corlys started to play the game was already over.

Lord Coryls isnt a King or the brother of a King. His house Valeryon, was an ancient house from Old Valyria, just like the Targaryans. Mind you, the Targaryans were just a noble house from Valyria. They werent kings back then in their homeland but here, in Westeros, they were the only ones that controlled the dragons, which made them powerful. Thats why, even tho Valeryon was from Old Valyria, they dont have the same authority as Targaryans cuz Velaryons werent dragonlords

We still use maggots and leeches today in hospitals for treatments, while European medicinal leeches are used rarely, maggots are used pretty frequently to treat chronic wounds, infected flesh, ulcers of all sorts, gangrenes or even burned flesh from burn victims - they are pretty effective.

I can see why the king did what he did, but it was such a terrible move as the king. Not only do you fracture your relationship with the only family you have left and your current heir to the throne, but you also anger the strongest house in the realm. It's not a move any smart and logically thinking king would make which is why Daemon had a point when he said his brother was never good at being king.
