In the first episode the main character said that the game is a shit game, because the animation was off, the plot is everywhere with magic, mechs, and magic, and he didn't like the personalities of the in-game characters as well.

So you get moments that seem out of place unless you read the light novel. Some cover it better than others but those moments are still there.
