"Getting through the next few years" playlist

Hey all! Some of you over on the Discord helped me to put this together, so here it is: the playlist to offer a bit of extra comfort and support in case things get tough in the coming years. I know some of you are concerned and uncertain about what's coming, but this community is awesome and I believe in our ability to support each other. None of these audios is new, but having them together in this playlist might be useful, and I'm also working on putting it on Spotify (I have the contract from the distributor in hand so it won't be long). Stay tuned for that, and in the meantime, please enjoy the playlist. Thank you for being here and thank you for being awesome!

I'll be honest, I've been too busy the past 2 days to read the contract, but I plan to dive into it tomorrow and make sure all looks good before we move forward

Thank you for posting this playlist. How are things going regarding it and Spotify?

I don't think anyone is saying that it hasn't been hard before this. It has, for a LOT of us. The cost of living has steadily been going up, largely thanks to corporate greed and the wealthy hoarding wealth, and that isn't likely to change. I know how it feels to make very hard choices - in fact, I'm staring down the barrel of a terrible year financially because of some family issues, and I've had to cut nearly everything from my budget to compensate. So I would say that yes, nearly everyone has already been affected, which is one reason why I've been doing comfort audios for years now. That said, many of the new things happening are a whole other level of scary and oppressive. ICE should not be going into schools. Cancer research should not be defunded. Leadership should not be illegally firing people who don't toe the line or pulling out of world orgs that are working toward health. And tariffs just make things MORE expensive, in a way that could be catastrophic to literally everyone. I think the point here is that yes, it has been hard up to now for so many people (including my own family), but what's shaping up for the future stands to be even harder, even scarier, even more difficult to weather. For many people who are already on the knife's edge, this is some seriously terrifying shit. The struggles of the past several years could very well get exponentially worse. Like I said, I only wish I could do more to help than make audios.

Everyone I know has been living with fear. Have been living paycheck to paycheck. Have been making the choice of groceries or heating. Left wondering what new decree will leave us bankrupt and homeless. Or worse. You have my sympathy that it could or is already starting to affect you and yours. I apologize if I sound crass. But it just sounds like more of the same that folks like me have been surviving against for years.

Other people have said a lot of stuff so I don't need to really elaborate, but we are definitely in unprecedented times. The US was a founding member of the WHO, and no country has ever pulled out of it, but here we are. Presidents can't just unilaterally fire inspectors general, but here we are. No one has ever ground communication from regulatory agencies to a halt like this, but here we are. We have the largest outbreak of tuberculosis right now in Kansas, we have soaring costs of living, and I don't blame people for being scared, especially people in marginalized communities. When Nazis are comfortable marching through towns because they think "their people" are in charge, that's a bad sign. Maybe things don't stand to change too much for you, and if that's the case, that's awesome. If you're not a minority, if you're not LGBTQ, if you're not an immigrant, if you're not disabled, if you're not poor enough that fluctuating grocery costs will hurt you, then that's amazing and I'm happy for you. But many, many people have a different lived experience and could suffer a great deal in the coming years. I hope it doesn't happen, but just in case, a little comfort can't hurt. I only wish I could do more. Either way, look after yourself. And look after others - we can't lose the sense of community, here or in real life. All we've got is each other, and if we have the power to do good, we should do it every chance we get.

Thanks for the playlist and your compassion and comfort, Ree! Really appreciate it.

I can tell you exactly what's going to happen, what is coming, because it's already happening now. What's below isn't hearsay: it happened to friends of the family. Direct witness and victim reports. Friday, a man was stopped by ICE representatives, twice, because he had dark skin. No other reason. He was detained for a total of three hours while trying to drive to work because he has dark skin. He's an American Indian and he's been living and working in that area for over two decades but he was stopped and told that he needed to go back to the reservation, hassled and generally made to feel like he was less than human because of his heritage. Same day, that man's daughter, who is half American Indian, was taken out of class by ICE, by people she doesn't know, without permission from the school or parents, and these unfamiliar people tried to take her into a room to "interrogate her on her parent's activities." Note the quotes. They physically rebuffed her teacher when the woman tried to stop them and were only stopped from taking this little girl, barely a teen, when the cops arrived and arrested them all as they were definitely violating the law. They spent their time in the school kidnapping a girl because her skin is dark and she had a dad with dark skin, physically assaulting a teacher, and screaming swear words at all the administration and children. Last week, a tentative list of "Trump is cancelling these studies" came out in medical communities." On that list are cancer studies that are ACTIVELY saving lives. Wednesday, in Forth Worth, TX, ICE showed up at a school and started trying to take any dark skinned child and put them on a bus. One of the teachers had said, "they are probably all illegal, anyway" (note the quotes), and called to 'do his civic duty.' Very fortunately, they were stopped, again by law enforcement, but no arrests were made. This is happening. It's not a joke or doom-saying. Basic freedoms for people who have a right to them are being infringed because a madman is sitting in the most powerful office in the nation of the U.S. Basic human decency is being thrown out because an asshole that wanted power pointed a finger at a group and said "They are different! They are the cause of your problems!" and, instead of requiring that he prove his claims or even be a decent human being, a huge portion of the populace went "He said it, it must be true! We should fear them!" like sheep. We are a country divided, at the best of times, but now so many of us are allowing ourselves to be led around by the nose by someone who can't be bothered to respect the office he's in, let alone the rights, both civil and human, of the people he is supposed to be leading. This is just the start. And yes, it will be far worse than the last six years.

Whether it is or not, we shouldn't let that stop us from keep on moving foward.

All we can do is learn from what happened, prepare for what may come and most importantly, pray.

I *very much* hope I'm wrong, but Trump has been throwing around some rather disturbing comments, even compared to the previous term. The stance on Greenland and Panama comes to mind, and I'm not entirely sure Congress has the sanity to stop him this time.

Thank you for the playlist. I don't wish to sound ungrateful, however too tired to find the "correct" words. What on earth is coming in the next few years that isn't more of the last six?
