I've been playing around with lighting in dark environments more recently. Usually I always started with a direct light source to determine how the base shading would look, but knowing that my background would be a more ambient environment I realised its mostly ambient light affecting the character, therefore realising I should just shade the ambient oclusion for the base shading instead of starting with a direct light source coming from a set position. Same goes for my recent Loona artwork.
