She guessed Jinshi's the only one who could aid her and make sure the officer's deeds won't go unnoticed. Still her assumptions but won't be surprising if true haha

2025-08-17 19:36:54 +0000 UTCJinshi arranged the marriage and I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that her lover was recently elevated. I don't think the Emperor was involved or cared enough to be as his focus is on his high-ranking concubines. He was no longer low-ranking. When he was low-ranking he could not ask for her hand which is why she was sent to the Emperor to begin with. She conspired to displease the Emperor because she did not wish to be with him and thus was left in tact but her status diminished enough that she would be worthy of her true love if his status elevated. With his promotion he was able to ask for her because she is a mid-rank Concubine. Her worth is LOWER than that of the other women so it would not have been offensive to the same degree. By strongly asking for it they likely thought other women would be more appropriate considering Fuyou was 'ill' and 'unworthy' of the Emperor so her rank was diminished in comparison to his new position. I doubt it was to do with him but more so with them attempting to persuade him to marry better but he persisted because mad or not, she was who he wanted to be with.

2025-08-17 16:13:28 +0000 UTCI'm so cynical that I was just waiting for something to go wrong with the concubine's plan (it was a big gamble!!!) , but when everything actually worked out and they achieved their happily ever after? ๐ฒ๐ I now suspect that Jinshi and the Emperor were aware of the deception and allowed it to happen. They went along with it, handing her over to the officer. ๐ค I've watched a few ancient Chinese movies, and I learnt it's highly inappropriate for a relatively low-ranking officer to request one of the emperor's women. Typically, such a request would be seen as a huge insult. That's why Fuyou's beloved childhood friend had to 'strongly' ask for it, likely multiple times, because his first request was probably turned down immediately as it was considered unreasonable and quite absurd. ๐ The fact that, against all odds, his request was approved may indicate that a few people behind the scenes, including the emperor himself, were fully aware of what was happening. This is speculation but they likely discovered he was the military officer from the beginning of episode two, who prevents his subordinates from killing the villagers based on mere suspicion of poisoning. The first two episodes were enjoyable, but the intrigue in this one really captured my attention. ๐ฏ๐

2025-08-17 09:01:16 +0000 UTCThis episode is one a lot of people cite as the episode that really got them to fall in love with TAD. I think the lives and challenges of women in this setting has been touched upon from the start, but this is where a lot of people realised that it's one of the major themes of the story. How women tried to have the fullest lives possible within the systems that caged them in. And how some people are able to manoeuvre through those systems to find true happiness.

2025-08-17 00:36:21 +0000 UTCI really love how Maomao goes through things logically. Even when she thinks she has all the facts, she still considers it speculation + gathers more information - and even then still calls it speculation (but in this case times her reveal of her "speculation" intentionally until it's too late to impact the concubine)
