I also realised that my theory stems from the conversation that Pyxis has with Eren in S1. That humanity would rally against a common enemy and put aside their differences. Eren called it naïve and foolish and Pyxis agreed.
Yet, here we are with everyone putting their hearts on the line for humanity. No matter how fleeting, no matter how temporary, humanity chose to work together in their greatest time of need, putting aside their history and prejudice, and that has to count for something.

(It's also where the first of the two specials ended, so needless to say it left us in anticipation waiting for the conclusion)
