DID I PASS?!

Dr Sophie Darling Reacts

Seeing what someone thinks about Gabi is my litmus test for who to make friends with in the SnK fandom, full stop. Well, and what they think about the Jeagerists.

Said it before, will say it and believe it always: Gabi and Falco are the very beating heart of AoT Final season and of the overall message. Absolutely love them both <3 The "cage" room scene with Gabi, Falco and Colt always makes me cry. Great reaction, as always ^^

Lemon

They were so blinded by nostalgia that they didn’t even want to try to understand the story or Gabi’s role in it.

I think people hate Gabi sm because most of the fandom grew up with AoT. They became really attached to Sasha, so when a newer character killed someone they had grown up with, it made them angry.

As someone who was waiting for Gabi's realization and repentance, I can say her arc was beautifully executed! All the cadets and kid warriors are my babies now 💛 I both held Gabi accountable for her actions, while also understanding she was reacting on adrenaline, trauma, and indoctrinated hate. Even the adults couldn't be convinced of their own prejudices and accept they were victims of propaganda, so I applaud Gabi for her maturity and emotional intelligence.

Violet

Violet evergarden. Emotional storytelling, great score, great character driven story. Probably bit too similar to Frieren. Maybe down the line?

You pointed out something in this ep that I had never said or heard anyone point out before event hough it's obvious in hindsight: Falco is predisposed to be a sweet boy and empathetic to Paradis devils because of his uncle's involvement in the restorationists. Of course that's a huge factor in his upbringing but for some reason I can't remember anyone bringing that up. Always learning something new about this show even 10+ watches in :D

I want to hear more of heartily laughing Sophie. 🤣 To think that it’s Yelena who would manage to do that. 🤣

Mikasa effortlessly carrying over a hundred kilos worth of thunder spears never fails to crack me up. There’s also that flashback episode when they were building the railways, and she’s passing by in the background with a massive piece of track on one shoulder.

I found it tough to really hate Gabi; kids can be easily influenced into believing anything, and that's part of why Marley chose to use child soldiers. The whole child soldier situation is super complex. Should you blame the kid or the adult who handed them the weapon and sent them off to fight? 🤷‍♂️ Anyone who deeply despises Gabi is missing the whole point of AOT. There aren't clear-cut villains or heroes (except for King Fritz, who was genuinely evil); it's just this endless cycle of hatred and violence. A lot of the animosity towards her for killing Sasha stems from the emotional connection we had with Sasha, who was introduced much earlier. The essence of these characters isn't even that different. But forgiveness has to start somewhere, so why not with the brainwashed child soldiers who thought that if they proved themselves, they could earn better treatment for their families? People can dislike Gabi, and her character might not resonate with everyone. But I really don't understand either the amount of hate. She's written too well to deserve such animosity.

How about that symbolism when Falco, Colt and Gabi where hiding in a room full of cages, and this time Gabi is the one taking Falco's armband off. And once she does we see an open cage. Symbolizing (I think) that Gabi and Falco have not just broken free from the marleyan brainwashing, but also from the cycle of hatred and senseless killing. They understand now how pointless and senseless it's been. In the other side there were never devils, just humans like them.
