Even in earlier episodes, you can see him doubting giving the titan powers to kids and making them war criminals and him listening to Gabi’s plans, like yes he did let the little girl to bomb some tanks but if he really didn’t care for the Eldians, he would’ve never listened to her. Also the fact that lots of eldians reasonably, which I think might not be the most accurate word to use here, becoming fascists is incredibly sad. Like I totally get why they became this way, but its just so devastating to watch people we loved like this.

2025-06-04 09:09:42 +0000 UTCI am so glad you skipped the intro. I believe they only show the skip button the second time the intro appears for some series which is annoying. This is one of the most hype intros in the series but it is also very spoiler-ridden so probably best to skip. IMHO it was made for the manga fans who already knew the plot rather than the anime only fans.

In fact, Magath is a character most people don’t even remember by name—they just see him as “the guy who trained the Warriors.” To me, Magath is a profoundly rich character, and his genuine involvement with and affection for the Eldians is both beautiful and painful to watch.

2025-06-03 23:44:39 +0000 UTCIt's because of both Fritz and Marley (indirectly). The Eldians were forced to fight for their survival against the titans for 100 years. When all of humanity is united (well, kinda united) against an inhuman existential threat, pseudo-fascist ideals like collectivism, authoritarianism, "give your life for your people!" and "the world is us vs. them!" etc. etc. not only begin to make sense, but are probably one of your better bets for survival. The people of the walls were trained by Marley and the titans themselves to see everything outside the walls as an enemy, trained to hold on a pedestal the idea of dedicating your heart and dying to restore your people's lost greatness. It wasn't obvious at the time if you just thought that only titans exist outside the walls, but swap "hordes of mindless monsters" for "enemy nations" and suddenly it's very clear. They were practically primed for fascism by the environment they were put in.

Something I’ve always found interesting is how quickly a lot of the regular folks on Paradis fall in line with that super authoritarian, borderline fascist approach to governing. I get that the Eldians had a history of being warlike before King Fritz wiped their memories, but it’s wild how easily the islanders seem to slip right back into that mindset. I know it’s not everyone on the island backing Floch, and even within the Yeagerist crowd, some probably just see it as a “peace through strength” thing instead of trying to resurrect the old empire. But man… either there’s something in the water over there, or Eldians just have a built-in tendency toward warmongering 😂.
