Recommendations after AOT?

I'm open to suggestions as I'm not fully sold on anything at the moment.

I am leaning towards Demon Slayer over Vinland Saga.

Yes - I know Vinland Saga is highly recommended and I do want to watch it. However, it seems to be the direction EVERY reaction channel goes after AOT because of how overly-recommended it is.

I do have to do research to see what's sustainable for the channel as well as what's interesting for me because let's be realistic here, I do want the channel to grow and perform well and if a react series flops then YT punishes subsequent videos by not pushing them as hard into the algorithm.

Vinland Saga does not seem to have that large of a base on YT. It seems to fall significantly short in comparison to AOT with very few people tuning in to watch it as a series. I do intend to watch it at some point but I don't know if it will be immediately after AOT as I want to try and keep momentum rather than dip significantly by jumping like every other reactor straight into Vinland.

There's also a lot of presumptions being made right now on YouTube that I can't possibly enjoy Demon Slayer because it's not as deep as AOT. I must stress that despite my doctorate I am very partial to Trash TV as we all like to watch something that doesn't require much thought and is just enjoyable for the sake of being enjoyable.

I'm also of the opinion that a story doesn't need to be deep in order to be good and just because it's not as deep as AOT doesn't mean there's not symbolism or themes that people may have overlooked on an initial watch that I can expand upon and discuss. If the story isn't good then it's also an opportunity to critique which I did quite frequently with Death Note when it fell short story wise haha!

So yes - I am not a snob when it comes to stories! I can enjoy things just for the sake of them being enjoyable.

However, drop some recommendations of what you would like to see next after AOT. If Vinland Saga and Demon Slayer are options you'd like to see then also please mention them too. I'll be compiling a list and then looking at the description to see if I find it interesting and compiling a poll of my top choices!

P.S Don't recommend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood as it's coming after Frieren. I only have 2 episodes left before I start filming for it.

It's been highly recommended and on my list! Don't worry! :D

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Violet Evergarden yet. Very emotional story with character arcs and symbolisms galore

I think you’d love Psycho-Pass, it’s a bit obscure but has incredible philosophical worth. They even directly reference a handful of classic works. It’s about a utopian future where your potential for criminal activity can be measured by a central AI system. And it follows the people tasked with enforcing that system’s judgements. And it explores how many ways that could go wrong.

I watched S1 when it came out but I remember very little but I'd be reluctant to film a react as I don't think people would enjoy a rewatch essentially 😭

Not rly an anime but if you haven't watched Arcane you definitely should! Its so good and the hype around it is also massive so im sure it will bang on YT. For me its up there with AOT, FMAB and Vinland Saga

One Punch Man is great comedy, but not at all intellectual. Jjk has amazing action, but again may not be the best for close analysis. Mob psycho is also great for entertainment value. Out of all of them I think JJK is easily the most hyped one. If you're in it for the long haul, you could do one of the big 3 (classic shonen anime), but they are SUPER long with a large portion being filler content not at all related to the story. Berserk is amazing but mega traumatising.

I highly recommend an unpopular anime “BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!”. It’s from the BanG Dream franchise, about high school girls playing as bands and chasing their dreams. But you don’t have to have any prior knowledge for this show since it’s stand alone. MyGO is more realistic and touches topics such as autism and social awkwardness. Easily has the best autism representation and plot these few years. But I do understand if you don’t watch it since it isn’t popular at all. But it would be great if you can just watch it on your own!!

Highly recommend a pretty underrated anime: Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil)

New member so I'm a bit late with a recommendation, but you'd seriously love dissecting Naoki Urasawa's Monster (2004) from a literary perspective. It's 74 episodes, but the story earns the length with its complex themes and psychology. Plus the animation studio went on to make Frieren 20 years later~ Edit: I see the comment that the show might struggle to pull in viewership, and that's fair. For a more popular recommendation, you would probably also love analyzing Satoshi Kon's work, films Perfect Blue (1998), Millenium Actress (2002), Tokyo Godfathers (2003), Paprika (2006), and his 13 episode series Paranoia Agent (2004). Edit again: I can't help but recommend one more artist's work, Yoshitoshi Abe. Serial Experiments: Lain (1998) and Haibane Renmei (2002). Both are 13 episodes each which delve into existential themes from two very different settings, but they are admittedly more lesser known cult classics still well worth experiencing even if only on your own time.

If you like AOT good storyline then Seven deadly sins is your best bet 😎😉
