Uncut AOT 4 x 16

Wish me luck guys!

I'm knee deep in the trenches over the next 5 days to edit as much as I can before I'm away on Thursday.

Also got to film 4 episodes of AOT tomorrow so that's going to be an intense and long day haha!

such a nice detail at 31:38, gabi tries to pick up a rock again like she did for kaya, but there are no rocks here.

I completely get you. I think my point is more about how Yelena tries to sell it as a peaceful alternative to war. Zeke is at least more realistic in his perspective! 😊

It is!! I haven't got around to reading it yet!

Hi Sophie, just want to make a quick note about something you said about Yelena’s and Zeke’s intentions. Yes, war would still happen and conflict would still happen, but I believe Yelena and Zeke don’t see themselves as trying to bring about world peace. They just want to end the “terror of the titans”. This is a concept that is touched on a few times in this series, that the terror of being eaten by titans is so horrible that people would rather kill themselves than face them. Zeke sees it as cruel that they bring more Eldians into this world who will be spit on for existing, who will be turned into weapons against their will, and then have others experience the same terror of titans eating them and their loved ones. Hence, he takes it upon himself to end the Eldian bloodline in a “peaceful way” where the only people who have to be eaten anymore are Historia’s children (he probably sees them as necessary sacrifices, just like all the other people he has killed for his goal). Hence, euthanization. But yeah, that’s mainly what I wanted to say. I don’t think world peace is the ultimate goal, as even a person with godlike person couldn’t bring that about, haha. Zeke just wants to end the terror of titans, and basically put the Eldians out of their misery. At least, that’s my interpretation. Let me know what you think!

The way you stand up for Historia and her role in season four is almost 1:1 with how Jean and Conny stood up for her in the scene where Levi asked her to become queen, it's very sweet. Like "Hey she just stood up to her family and their expectations of her and now we're going to forcer her right back into that role just because it benefits us?" Her answer then was something like "I appreciate it guys, but I'm the one who gets to decide if it's forced on me and I'm willing to do it" would that be her same answer now? To what extent does she embrace her role as a mother like she did as queen? Would that even matter if her kid was forced to eat her by the time they hit puberty? If only there were some way characters could communicate their feelings to the audience with their words thoughts or actions. But alas for now I guess we must make do with few and far between shots of her looking miserable and draw our own conclusions lol

Nine months and a half after this episode for the next half of season 4. Nine. And a half. Babies were conceived and born. And we waited. I salute the fortitude of the anime-onlies, by then I had already jumped into the manga during the battle of Shingashina the previous season. And it still hurt to wait for the anime's full glory.

I have already spoken about that previously. I'm aware that it's more than just what they've done in the past but the past is also routinely used as a JUSTIFICATION for the mistreatment and oppression of Eldians more so than their current weaponization by Marley. Hence why I mention it. I've spoken at length in relation to the ongoing threat so I didn't feel it necessary to repeat myself haha! But yes - the hardest path is hard for a reason but far worth it compared to the other options presented!

Dr Sophie Darling Reacts

The fear and hatred of Eldians isn’t just about ancient history or "past sins". It’s rooted in the ongoing threat Titans represent. The atrocities didn’t stop with the fall of the Eldian Empire, it's been shown that they continue today under Marley, which weaponizes both Pure and Intelligent Titans to oppress others. So for the world, it’s not just about what Eldians did, but what they’re still being used to do—and what they could do again. Whether it's under an Eldian empire, Marley, or a global alliance, this world's inability to reconcile with Eldians stem from precedent, potential, and the inability to guarantee safety. That's an almost insurmountable mountain to climb. The easier path would be euthanize all eldians, or kill all the enemies so there's no "other" anymore. But IMO the right path can often be the hardest, and even if there's little chance to succeed they must try scale that mountain as Armin and Hange are, or as Shasha's father says they must all "get out of the forest"
