Curious Poll

Okay SO

I'm looking to do a higher tier at £11.50 ($15 USD) called Darling's Royal Court - if you have any questions about what it would be in your currency just drop a comment below and I can provide that info!

The breakdown will be

I keep being torn between watching Berserk or reading the Manga. I've heard the Manga is phenomenal.

I'm tempted to do the Manga as an exclusive for the higher tier and then eventually watch the Anime. But I also want to watch a third series to try and provide more variety for you all - If I end up doing the Manga first then I'll probably watch Demon Slayer because it keeps taunting me and looks really intriguing.

Or should I watch Berserk first and then read the Manga? Not sure if that will take away some of the first time experience though.

Unfortunately haven't read or watched Berserk, However, in the past when it's come to movie/show adaptions to books/manga, I've found that I enjoyed watching the show before reading the book. The books will always be better and always be able to add sooo much more than the animation ever could. I feel like I always feel so disappointed when I've read first then watched after. But this is just me personally. I have no idea how that translates to this show in particular

I also see that the reason for people picking the "read the manga first" is because anime skips through some stuff, so that you really can't just watch the anime and then start reading the manga where it left off, but you have to read from the beginning. So, watching the anime and then reading the manga from chapter 120 is not the optimal way of experiencing Berserk, but most people eagerly read it from the beginning after watching anime, and I guess that would also be Sophie's preferred option. I doubt that she would just jump to read from where the anime ended and would probably prefer to read from the beginning anyway, so I guess maybe people are worried about this issue

With respect to everybody's opinion, but I disagree with people voting to read the manga first. I mean, what's the point of reacting to anime then? I don't think watching anime first and then reading the manga is taking anything from the experience. Berserk anime is very good, climactic and considered a classic. It also adapts only a part of the story and serves as a great introduction to Berserk. I don't see any harm with reacting to anime first and then getting into manga - there is no negative here. That's how most people were introduced to Berserk anyway. While reading manga first and then watching anime means that there is very little reason to react to anime afterwards. It's also really, really long manga. I guess I'm starved for an interesting Berserk 97 reaction.

I highly recommend reading the manga, the anime skips a lot and changes things. If you watch the anime first, you’d still need to read the manga from chapter 1 and go through the golden age (what the anime covers) again before continuing. If you just continue the manga after the anime (without reading from the beginning) you will be missing A LOT of very important context and might actually get confused with the conflicting information.

I read the manga first, but the 1997 anime is still a perfectly fine way to get into the series.

I just recently posted a react to A Silent Voice on Saturday 😊 It's locked to the higher tier but an edited react comes to YouTube at the beginning of June!

I hope you will water A Silent Voice (anime movie) and Jujutsu Kaisen especially, it's a good follow-up after Attack on Titan. Subscribed to your patreon because of your AOT reactions. I enjoy them and I hope I'd be able to catch up before you upload the next. I'm on your AOT season 3 reactions at the moment.

Whatever you pick I will watch, but I believe watching the 1997 series first is the better option. It was designed to make people want to run to the store to get the manga. I know that because that's exactly what happened with me!

I only speak for myself but I watched the 1997 anime before reading and I still thoroughly enjoy the manga especially all the original artwork you don't get to see in the show. Didn't harm my experience.

Personally I think you should read the manga. There's literally nothing like it. However, it's very long and still ongoing and watching the 1997 anime first would not be a bad idea The Golden Age movies are also not a bad idea, they're a trilogy of animated movies that retell the 1997 anime's story. Whatever you do, avoid the 2016 anime On a side note, Berserk is one of the darkest, most brutal fictional worlds out there (even more than AoT) so be mentally prepared to see the sheer evil humans can be capable of

I think reading the manga first would deprive everyone who wants to see the anime reaction for a substantial amount of time. It's a very long manga. I also don't think you lose anything by watching the anime and picking up the manga at the end-point as a compromise between both. Alternatively I suppose you could watch and read the manga at the same pace but that may be a bit redundant for you personally.
