Thank you for this comment omg. Seeing the Gabi hate from reactors (and through people talking about the show online) has always put a bad taste in my mouth only because I feel like they aren't truly understanding the messages and themes of the show, you know...

There's a clear parallel between the two characters, which is intentional and ties into the theme of the cycle of hatred. Gabi despises Eren for attacking her home, while Eren retaliated against her home due to his hatred for Marley, stemming from their attack on his own home. Gabi receives a lot of backlash from fans, but if the story were told from her viewpoint, she could easily become a beloved character.
