Now you know why all 3 Warriors were just beneath Mikasa in rankings in the 104th. They'd already done all the training years earlier.

2025-04-19 20:19:41 +0000 UTCOne heartbreaking personal theory I have is that, we’ve seen that the final straw to Reiner’s mental breakdown was when he ended Marco’s life. But the OTHER final straw was finding out Eren was a titan. Before the battle for Trost the RBA trio still thought their target, the Founding Titan, was going to be inside one of the Royal Family members or something. They never imagined it would be held by one of their comrades in the 104th. So I think a huge part of Reiner’s mental break that a lot of people might not pick up on is that he had to confront the fact that their target, the person they had to bring home to be eaten, was at least potentially the person that Reiner empathized with the most on Paradis. That must have been an extremely difficult thing to reckon with. And remember, Marco’s ending happens in the same battle that they find out Eren is a titan so he was trying to process all that at once. It’s also why Eren is the person he reveals that he’s the Armored Titan in 2x6, because on a certain level, he felt so bonded to Eren that he literally forgot that he couldn’t realistically trust him with that information at that time. And maybe in some way, trying to get Eren to go with them of his own free will was his way of trying to reconcile the guilt he felt at knowing he had to eventually hand over his friend to be eaten. It’s so sad but it makes soo much sense after seeing this episode. Then when you think about everything else surrounding Reiner and his position in life, you realize that he has NEVER been able to be himself. He’s spent his entire life so far living a lie in one way or another. :’( The weight of that has to be so heavy. But it also hammers home the theme of people being trapped, the lack of freedom. Just like Eren felt the walls kept him from being free when he was growing up, Reiner has built up emotional walls that keep him from being free as well. And that fits the theme of his Titan so well too. He has a thick layer of defensive armor on, in more way than one. And at the same time, as you mentioned in your video, he has a desire to protect others, he always put the protection of others in priority when he can, that’s who he is at the core of his being. And so just like his Titan form represents a toxic aspect of his personality, it can also represent a healthy aspect of his personality too. A dual nature, just like his mental state. Daaammnn sorry this message is long but I just kept thinking of more things to add. This show has so many layers!

2025-04-15 19:55:09 +0000 UTCThis is one of my favorites of this first part, it is one of the best directed. It never ceases to amaze me for all the details it has. It makes you have a more complete vision of what happened as well. 20:08 a mention to this cut, it's quite terrifying and great how they handled it. “Reiner is dead. If we need Marcel, then i'll be Marcel”. There really are several hints of the infiltrated warriors in the first chapters of the series, it's awesome. In the manga it is shown in more detail how they break through the wall. The strategy was to unleash chaos inside the walls and infiltrate. For that Annie would call the pure titans from a long distance, then exchange with Marcel to run to the walls, but as Annie had to run alone she was exhausted when they reached the wall, Bertolt breaks the wall and charges with Annie, that's why we only see Reiner enter. I imagine that the director wanted to put it in the chapter but surely they didn't have the time.
