For me, this episode is when the characters and world became elevated to an entirely new level of feeling real. It was rewarding to see you instantly recognize Reiner's words to Falco on the train as a warning to not think like that publicly and also to comprehend the significance of the many layers of the dinner scene. It breaks my heart how Reiner wants to talk about his experiences on Paradis but knows he can't be honest for the sake of his family. A small , chef's kiss esque detail I appreciate is how they lead into the dinner scene with Gabi's "BOOM!" she exclaims during her war story; it's a clever juxtaposition of the Marleyan soldier who yelled the exact same thing to make the Eldian soldiers with PTSD fall down. It really emphasizes the point that the cycle of instilling hatred via indoctrination is being passed down to the next generation.

Like the gut punch of Ymir being gone 😢 looking back on season 2 she knew that would almost certainly be her fate but she chose to save B&R by going with them anyway. What a selfless girl, how tragic that she didn’t get to continue as a character after how awesome she was in s2.
