I thought about recommending MHA, because it is a great show, but there is a good amount of sexism and fanservice

2025-03-07 00:39:16 +0000 UTCI find that a lot of people don't pick up that they took so much away from Misa's character because her energy and demeanor remains somewhat similar throughout. But you are right: would the Misa we see here have been smart enough to publicly send a message to Kira telling him where to meet in a way only he would understand with a decoy message for the investigators to follow? Would she disguise herself and keep an eye out from afar for someone with a name but no lifespan, so that she could look them up later but never be seen with them at the time she denoted in the message? Would she have been able to concoct a plan to sneak away from Mogi and meet with Higuchi, then play him like a fiddle to not only get a confession but resolve a disagreement between members of the investigation team? Would she be smart enough to know how much she could reveal about that conversation with Higuchi to make sure she didn't get caught withholding something that it would be possible to find out later? This Misa could never do those things, but Misa DID do those things! It's not long after she's first apprehended that her flanderization starts but the timeskip really seals the deal on it. It feels to me like they regretted not making Misa more of a Takada character to begin with, so they just kind of kept her in limbo with an occasional scene to remind us she even exists until they could introduce the character they were more interested in writing, rather than accepting what they'd already written and taking it as a challenge of how they could effectively utilize her character in the story.

2025-03-07 00:22:37 +0000 UTCAgreed with Midnight_Kitty, there’s a significant amount of sexism in a large portion of anime, which is unfortunate. You’ll have an absolute field day if you ever watch My Hero Academia lol. I think most anime fans have gotten used to looking past the uglier sides of the medium in order to enjoy the good sides (which is definitely an ethical debate in itself). I get very easily annoyed when there’s badly written female character writing in stories, so most of my top anime ranks are the animes without it.
