Up until episode 25 the show is very faithful to the source material, but following it there's a lot of content cut. Btw, after you finish Death Note you should check out chapter 107 of the manga and let us know which ending you prefer. They're both fantastic endings imo, but it's been a hot debate on the better end to the story.

2025-02-27 21:43:19 +0000 UTCI don’t know much about the production of the anime but I think you are right that they tried to condense the manga too much. For reference the stuff after L dies is a little over 40% of the story but that doesn’t carry to the anime. I think they might have been trying to up the pace in part because that half of the manga can feel pretty slow to some people, but if so they overcompensated. I find Mikami to be a really interesting character and I’m really looking forward to seeing if you agree. I also somehow entirely missed that you started Frieren?? Frieren and Death Note are the only 2 anime I’ve loved so much I had to go back and read the manga so I love that we’re getting that!
