Uncut Death Note 29

Comments

Yeah that's the inevitable conclusion I came too as well 😅 it was just worded so weirdly that I wasn't 100% sure.

My interpretation of the rule is that if you are not the owner of a notebook and you touch it, you will see the shinigami associated with that notebook indefinitely unless you become the formal owner of that notebook and subsequently forfeit ownership, in which case you will no longer see that shinigami unless you touch it again.

He did not deserve to be essentially pushed to his death by Light :(

Sophie Anders

I agree somewhat about loss and grief but pushing your father into a dangerous situation and acknowledging that you would kill him after 13 days is a pretty huge indication that he had already come to the conclusion that his father would die for his own purposes. Perhaps a part of him does feel grief but I think he's also VERY GOOD at pretending e.g. his reaction to L's death. He's a skilled manipulator which is why I don't buy his grief as being ultimately real.

Sophie Anders

I fully believe he's corrupted here. If you truly loved your father you would never put him in that position to begin with, nor contemplate the idea of having to kill him. He pushed his father to continue despite knowing how dangerous it was for his own end goals. That shows his lack of care and disregard for his father completely because no one who genuinely loves a parent would force them into that situation. I think there is a part of Light that exists that loves his dad BUT it's far outweighed by his own self-serving purposes.

I think Light’s reaction to his dad dying is genuine. He reconciled the fact that after 13 days he would have to kill his father, but when we hear his internal monologue he doesn’t allow himself to finish his thought. “If dad writes a name in the notebook then when the time comes…” Or maybe I’m grasping at straws and I just don’t want to believe he’s totally corrupted here.

We know that Light also has a different personality in him that's capable of caring for others, but the opportunity and goal that the notebook had given him, corrupted him, made him prioritize his twisted objective and accept any sacrifices along the way. After his father passed, I believe that he did actually feel the loss and grief, rather than just pretending completely.

It’s one of my favourite episodes of this show. I like Light’s father so much. He was a great person
