Uncut AOT 3 x 10

Comments

I never realised just how much levi with long hair looks like Mikasa :O

Merry

I can't prevent myself from getting emotional at the end there when Kenny dies, and the great moment where they actually see Levi smile for the first time.

I am glad to see the comments here appreciating the episode, it was underrated when it first came out. Thematically and plotwise it is a very important episode while at the same time only focusing on one character. This isn't a spoiler just an idea I interpreted: Something I think that doesn't get mentioned a lot but is heavily implied is the fact Levi thought Kenny was his father this whole time. Levi never knew his father probably assumed this man who took him in, knew his mother, and raised him had to be his father. Makes it even sadder when Kenny laughs at him after realizing that Levi thought Kenny was his father and Kenny just tells him that he was just her brother. Levi looks shocked and somewhat disappointed when hearing this. Levi probably hoped to get some closure in that part of his life.

Man Lit

Little details like 10:50 levi finding his way to use a knife by turning it around, he does this later with the double swords when he enters the legion in the OVA and later on, he is the only one who uses them like this. And in this episode after introducing Uri, it's his voice we hear calling him when levi finds him, in the previous ep it's levi's own voice, loved the direction of the ep.

ML Snow

The scouts now have Titan serum!

Dagmar Makara

fun fact that might be relevant to analysis and mgiht not be obvious due to the separation into parts and specials of differnet lengths but... in terms of runtime we're about at the mid point of the entire show now

HAL

By the way, I can't wait to see your reaction to episode 3x11. Another truly fascinating one!

I also find absolutely fascinating that the King of the Walls was actually sincerely trying to build a paradise for everyone in the walls. It may be hard to understand his methods, but it is very clear that he was honestly trying his best to make this world a better place. Yet, not even the King of the Walls was able to rule alone. He had to rely on the nobles, on the military police, etc. His message of peace getting diluted by every passing corrupt politician that was only looking for his self-interest. I asked a few episodes ago if this coup d'état would actually be good for humanity in the long run. We, of course, trust Erwin and Historia and the rest of our crew. But what about Zachary? What about the rest of the nobility or the politicians that they would need to rely on to actually be able to rule over the whole territory? Will they be able to change the underlying structure? Will they actually be able to exert meaningful change for the people in the faraway villages near the edge of the walls? Before this episode I was convinced that anything would be better than the system that they had before. But after seeing how not even the King of the Walls was able to exert his will of peace upon the government, I started to feel more skeptical.

Kenny is such a fascinating character. He just goes to show that having empathy and being able to be compassionate is such a privilege. In a dog eats dog world like the one Kenny lived, showing mercy just gets you killed. So he had to become this ruthless person, unable to ever let his guard down. Yet, deep down, he was actually yearning for something different, for a more compassionate view of the world like the one Uri had. When he realized that he was never gonna be able to see the world that way he actually lost his reason for living. Kenny's line of "everyone is a slave of something" always hits me so very deeply. Living in a world that sometimes feels so harsh and indifferent, we will always need a reason to wake up every morning and keep moving forward. It's so simple, yet so powerful.

This is one of my favourite episodes purely bc of how thematically relevant it is to the series as a whole and to understanding certain characters and their choices. Kenny's monologue is *chef's kiss* I think you'll probably find yourself looking back on this ep by the end of season 3 & reflecting on everything

Kenny is such an interesting character. And although a lot of people like him because he is "cool", he is also very misunderstood (or at the very least, only superficially understood). I think very few people understand the detail of him not wanting to harm innocents as a Titan and not risking injecting himself. And at the same time he delivers an amazing speech about everone being a slave to something, implying how he lost his will to push on when loosing his ambition. So satisfying to see you understand him so well on a first watch and empathize with him so much. One thing I've said a few episodes ago and wanted to highlight at this episode is: Isayama knows how to write death in a way very few know. It is respected, it has meaning, it impacts characters, it teaches, it changes our prespective. Kenny is not the first character to whom he does this (RIP Marco) and probably wont be the last. Also, this show, especially after this point in the third season, really makes me want to go through it and discuss it "under the guidance" of Hannah Arendt and the whole "banality of evil" idea. To finish, just wanted to say that I'm so glad you are enjoying it as much as you are! You are too quick-witted ahah ^^ have a great day!

This episode has gradually risen to be in my Top 5 AoT episodes. I personally think this is one of if not the most important episode to understanding the series and Isayama. It legitimately took me 40+ rewatches and listening to several reactors before the depth of this episode finally clicked for me. I could write an essay on it, but I know you want to come to those conclusions yourself. And don’t worry, I’m not saying there’s some crazy hidden clue concerning the plot or anything, just the importance of this episode to overall themes, writing, etc. of AoT.

Anybody who says “Attack on Titan is mid” is just someone watching with an immature mind probably expecting stupid goofy anime moments like pervy sage stuff, or screaming zenitsus, creepy mineta. Since AOT does none of that, it’s mid. NO! You’re just immature!

Reginald

Exactly! This show isnt just some stupid old show about titans. It’s about a message to the public.

Reginald

Did you ever think you would have cried for Kenny Ackerman

Reginald

THIS IS LEGITIMATELY MY FAVORITE SHOW ON THE PLANET. Dont care.😅 Also yup unhealed trauma can be a dangerous thing

Reginald

It's heart breaking that he really wanted to see if his life would change if he just had a different perspective that allowed him to look past his own trauma :(

Sophie Anders

I think Kenny's dying monologue is one of the more important moments in the series. Isayama has a habit of saying things he wants to say to the world through the mouths of certain characters (I can think of a couple of other moments too) and here the message about how brutal the world is; and regardless of the power dynamics everyone is in some way trapped by the structure of the world. That they all have to be "drunk on something" in order to deal with the absurdity of the human condition in which we find ourselves. The perspective is pretty poignant and a really interesting lens to look back through AOT on rewatch with.

Anna Kyruin

I am a lot better now! :')

Sophie Anders

Levi smiling is so wholesome. He's been through a lot.

Driahva

Kenny just wanted to see the world in a different lens from his current view which is probably so dark and rage filled.

Reginald

Thank you for your reaction! I think you doing very well even with flu. I hope you are okay now and will not get any bad symptoms again

Eleonora Frizorger

I just love this show so gat damn much. I love that they reuse characters for other scenes even after we forgot about them, like Sannes

Reginald

OH TRUE
