Sophie's Attack on Titan Mindmap
Added 2025-02-04 17:49:20 +0000 UTCI've had to write it out this way in an attempt to start making connections between S2 and the information we're receiving in S3. You will have to zoom in and out as there are so many moving parts.
As always - never confirm nor tell me if something is right or add to my theories because that can change my perspective. I'd rather allow my mind to figure out as much as it can based on what the show is telling me.
I still feel incredibly dumb because I have so many questions and I just cannot figure out the answers.
Did anyone else feel this way in early S3 or had you sussed out already where the show was going?! I feel like there's so many pieces still missing as a first time watcher. I imagine on a second watch I'd see the foreshadowing MUCH clearer.
But yes - I hope you enjoy the madness that is my mind right now! I'll probably add to this the more information I get.
Comments
You should definitely watch after the end of season 3 at least. A lot of interesting changes as well.

2025-02-05 23:26:12 +0000 UTCWhat basement?...oh that...there was too much going on and I completely forgot. π€£

2025-02-05 18:25:30 +0000 UTCtbh i think most people had no idea where it was heading. the show gives you 5 more questions per 1 answer LOL but for sure everyone agreed we had to get to that damn basement! hahah

2025-02-05 18:18:37 +0000 UTCfrom s1 actualy. but you said that you want to find that stuff yourself, so iΒ΄m not going to give you anything more

2025-02-05 12:25:29 +0000 UTCFrom S2 or S3? I mean hints are hints - not all first time watchers will grasp haha! Especially on a single watch too! I'd also argue that something isn't obvious if it's easily missed haha! You're also speaking as someone who has seen the entire show so that might colour your perspective somewhat in terms of obvious because you know what that infers - if you get me?
Sophie Anders
2025-02-05 12:09:21 +0000 UTCI don't want to spoil you anything - but I do believe that there is actually a pretty obvious hint you missed. Just a thing you didn't pay any attention to. If you don't get this at all, I will come back to this in the faar faar future. Are you going to update this brainstorm regularly?

2025-02-05 11:39:46 +0000 UTCI found that Kindle Unlimited has them free!! One day I shall afford the physical but at least I can start reading Vol 1 β€οΈ
Sophie Anders
2025-02-05 09:51:40 +0000 UTCYeah - it seems a lot of the hints are designed for you to grasp on a rewatch after getting the full context! Which is great because it makes the second watch more exciting but as of right now - a first time watcher even a perceptive one would not grasp everything! π
Sophie Anders
2025-02-05 09:49:24 +0000 UTCThat's fair! I'm just analytical by nature so trying to figure out the show is what makes it fun for me! Though of course it's difficult when you've partial information and hints that are designed to be grasped on a re-watch rather than a first time watch π
Sophie Anders
2025-02-05 09:48:52 +0000 UTCWe are just running on vibes!!
Sophie Anders
2025-02-05 09:47:47 +0000 UTCThat's a bit of a relief haha!! I feel the pressure somewhat to be perceptive and get everything instantly but this show has so many layers to it that it feels like a lot of what people expect me to grasp would be more re-watch territory!
Sophie Anders
2025-02-05 09:47:03 +0000 UTCWell I imagine it's because the hints are not obvious to first time watchers but more designed for the re-watch. It'd definitely be impossible for me to get absolutely everything on a single watch of each episode π I definitely do my best but yeah - with the depth of this show I don't think anyone is getting everything first time! There's far too much going on and the show can also be quite deceptive in leading you down one path and then suddenly turning a sharp corner π

2025-02-05 09:45:40 +0000 UTCThank you for sharing this brainstorm map with us :D It's really interesting to see what you picked up - and I am kinda glad that there are actually some hints that you completely overlooked/missed out on. But really amazing with what you all came up with from the so far given information. I wonder how much of that - if anything at all - is going to be correct :p
Ricardo
2025-02-05 02:34:19 +0000 UTCThis is amazing. Thanks for sharing. I believe most people are almost clueless when they reach this point. I definitely was. A glimpse into how your mind works to put together pieces of the puzzle (both in video and from this mindmap) is fascinating.

2025-02-05 00:38:43 +0000 UTCyea, I have the same struggle, my local bookstore has all of the volumes of AoT, the price is the only thing preventing me from getting it LOL. You should read the manga after finishing the show or maybe start after season 3 on the side.

2025-02-05 00:31:40 +0000 UTCI got a few big pieces right before S3, others hit me out of left field. I think even the things I guessed I didn't have an inkling of the depth and texture of the story that would surround them.

2025-02-04 23:12:16 +0000 UTCI didn't know what was going on, but I didn't mind that. I was just going along for the ride, letting the show tell its story slowly. It feels good for you to be able to say you knew Reiner was a Titan, but I felt awesome when they dropped that out of nowhere. It's a different way of watching the show. I get that some people make YouTube shows with deep analyses and predictions, trying to pick up every detail on first watch (or when editing). Those people may feel tortured as the show really takes its time before dropping the big truth bomb. And yes, a second viewing gives you so much more details to pick up on. I rewatched seasons 1-3 while waiting for season 4, and it felt like new material from the first time, even though it was the same footage, and there were still a few last puzzle pieces missing to fully understand certain characters.
Wouter
2025-02-04 23:01:47 +0000 UTCYou definitely don't have all the pieces to put everything together yet, so it's totally expected to be confused. I will say when I was up to this point in the manga, I was still very much just guessing at what was going on.
Lex Garrett
2025-02-04 22:40:22 +0000 UTCRight?! I understand that people love the action scenes but they miss out on such deep story-telling by rolling their eyes at the slower episodes! That's where Isayama SHINES!
Sophie Anders
2025-02-04 18:58:10 +0000 UTCI don't think anyone could fully piece things together at this point. There are some clusters of information that are coming together, but it's still scattered and there are big holes. But I haven't yet fully checked out your mindmap to see where you are, so it'll be a fun dive into your ideas. After the first two seasons my general prediction was that it was going to go a more traditional way of anime stories, give a bit more premise for the conflict between the intelligent titans and humanity (with Eren). And then just jump straight into action again. So the S3 was a bit of a wakeup call for me, that this is not just an entertaining show, there's exceptional depth in the story. And I actually begun to try to piece it together. It's kind of funny to me when people say that S3 start is slow/boring because of the political stuff, but AoT probably wouldn't have fully grabbed my attention, if it wasn't for those episodes.

2025-02-04 18:56:24 +0000 UTCthats kinda what makes it so much fun though
HAL
2025-02-04 18:21:28 +0000 UTCYeah it feels like I am working with partial information and there's questions that my brain just cannot even begin to think of an answer to as of right now! Hopefully with more pieces I can begin to make sense!
Sophie Anders
2025-02-04 17:59:16 +0000 UTCI looked at the Vol 1 of AOT today and HOLY SHIT that thing is huge and it's only up until the reveal of the Female Titan! Β£60 put me off buying though for now haha!
Sophie Anders
2025-02-04 17:58:23 +0000 UTCIt's not madness or dumb - the show is just incredibly complex and things I hadn't even in my wildest dreams considered as possibilities turned out to be parts of the answers. It's a very difficult show to theory-craft on, because it's one that you'll only truly fully understand in retrospect when you've seen all of it (and I mean that more than 99% of shows). So I can understand why it feels like trying to build a jigsaw where you're not only missing pieces, but some pieces are bizarre incongruent shapes that don't make sense :P I think that's pretty normal for AoT, since so much of the plot was decided on by the author long before the first episode / first chapter was ever written

2025-02-04 17:57:24 +0000 UTCYea I felt the same in early S3. Or the manga equivalent
