DAMMIT!

Sophie Anders

heresy! (i'm not saying ANYTHING)

flyingbread

Is it the fucking can itself? Because I just ran with "that's normal" but is it in that world? Could almost be advanced technology depending on the population.

Sophie Anders

but it seems like they're all unwilling ot talk even under torture - if they know how this can play out they'd be as unwilling to read it out as they are to talk - but sleep deprivation could probably get them there

HAL

I was running with the theory at first that it wasn't her mum but that's just me being silly haha!!

Sophie Anders

Oh no I get you! I was just showing where my though process came from haha! I think that's why if I ever watch a show where time is wonky my brain might break because I'm too logical haha!!

Sophie Anders

High five! I do too!

Sophie Anders

just a small hint for you: The "canned herring" has another component of mystery that you've glanced over. There are the letters, the nature of herring and...

flyingbread

bro yes.

Reginald

The excitement though must be killing you for when I hit some realisations so I truly do sympathise haha!!

Sophie Anders

Got it

Reginald

You don't need to tell me I have misconceptions. That's basically telling me I'm wrong which is going to cause me to overthink my previous analysis. You could just leave it as "you have some strong theories" :)

Sophie Anders

UGH I WISH I COULD SAY STUFF😅😅😅 just know you have some strong theories.

Reginald

You’re right

Adam Young

True but again we don't know if they threatened him either. Torture isn't always physical as we saw haha!

Sophie Anders

So good seeing your gears turning almost in real time as you're discussing. 🤣

Hezer

Hange said that they didn't question him, but that doesn't mean they didn't torture Ralph before forcing him to read the text. And maybe Ralph wasn't that loyal to the king anyway, so it was easier to persuade or make a deal with him.

Hezer

I have the memory of a goldfish, but hopefully I'll remember it by the time you cover the relevant episodes

Krul

I also thought that maybe his dad was somewhat proud of his son realizing that things didn't add up right with the story they've been told. And maybe because of that, he assumed that Erwin would be smart enough to keep it a secret, so he didn't make it clear that the information shouldn't be spread around. Erwin just didn't realize the seriousness of the topic, and was probably too excited to tell about it to others.

Hezer

Okay now you have my excited haha!!

Sophie Anders

Damn! Reading your comment made me think of something but I can't talk about it yet, lol. I guess I can only thank you again for taking the time to share all your theories and thoughts with us. Really excited to watch your upcoming videos!

Krul

Oh no, I totally get that, and I was thinking more generally, that a person would be effectively immortal while trapped in a titan (albeit at the expense of their sanity seemingly) that was how i took it anyway. So much more info to come, excites to see you see it!

Anna Kyruin

My heart honestly goes out to you all. It's such a frightening time! The community is always here if you need to vent!

Sophie Anders

Yeah, my interpretation is based on timeline the words are older than our Ymir. Unless we're being shown Ymir's background as a disjointed narrative because she was only Lady Ymir prior to being trapped for 60 years. So the phrase 'blessed with immortality' means that it's in relation to the original figure of Ymir and who our Ymir is imitating before her entrapment in the Titan form!

Sophie Anders

I don't find it weird. It's rather realistic for someone whose been threatened with death will do anything to save themselves even if it plays into psychological torture. We also don't know if he underwent any form of interrogation himself prior which could include sleep deprivation that impairs cognitive reasoning :)

Sophie Anders

I 100% agree with you! I definitely wouldn't have come to that conclusion myself based off of one watch because it's too disjointed from when Sannes speaks that line to when we see the events take place so it was out of my mind. Whereas if I had heard that line after the events had taken place I would likely have come to the same conclusion. That's not a criticism of Isayama's writing I must throw that out there, but lines like that are absolutely designed for a second watch for their meaning to sink in rather than a first time perspective. Which is why people probably say that the re-watch is better as you catch much more knowing the full extent of the story. I never thought Hange's actions were justified and I still don't. I may understand why they view it as a necessary evil but I don't believe any good comes from torture and brutality only further oppression. You are no more a monster than they are if you result to the same tactics. It may be a victory for humanity in the short term but we won't know until we see the long term. What Zachary's is doing - I don't think anyone agrees with but when a population has been trampled upon and mistreated by an oppressive regime, they may see themselves as justified in their actions. Which is why they may overlook it but whose to say whether they continue to do so? Only time will tell whether they will be better than the ones ruling them or worse. Just as Sannes implies to Hange that one day it may be her being tortured, Erwin says the same thing to Neil. That one day this may be him and then what? History and society is often cyclical so who truly knows what will come of this.

Sophie Anders

I know - I just found it funny :)

Sophie Anders

Yeah - it's not quite clear! You'd think maybe his dad would have told him to keep it secret and perhaps he did and Erwin didn't take it seriously because he's just a kid. Could be why he keeps everything so closely guarded as he grows up because he's worried about it being a risk to everyone involved!

Sophie Anders

we got baby erwin this episode!! One thing I'm wondering is, did erwin's dad not tell erwin to keep the theory a secret? Or maybe he did and erwin was just a slightly rebellious child.

Hann

47:34 well, without photography and with limited resources there's a pretty good chacne whoever drew that sketch only had a file with some basic data like height, weight, eyecolor, hair color and some descriptions from other people to work off

HAL

I have some theories about why Historia's mom behave the way she did, but I can't talk about them just yet. Just leaving the comment here so that I can return to it once we are further into the show.

Krul

Note: I'm making this comment based on the fact that you mentioned you have already watched episode 3x06, so you know Erwin's plan already. Regarding what Sannes said to Hange about the role that keeps being passed on. The way I saw it at the time was that Sannes thought he was justified in torturing and killing Nick, but now he has found himself in the position that Nick was, with Hange taking his place. But just like how we thought that Hange torturing him was justified for the greater good of humanity, in the future Hange may find themselves in the opposite side of the inquisition table, being tortured by someone who believes their actions are justified. Erwin's plan of fighting the government by becoming the government themselves reminds me of what Armin said at the end of season 1 about becoming a monster in order to defeat monsters. But if what Sannes said is true and we are using the same methods and justifying torture and corruption (think Zachary's disturbing scene during 3x06), but just with different people occupying the same roles, can you really call it a victory for humanity? That was my reading at the time, and why I think Hange was so mad after hearing Sannes's words, but probably other people see it differently.

Krul

32:16 today is her original voice actors birthday btw :P

HAL

one of the few things I always found kinda werid is that ralph so willingly read that text aloud they're all experienced in torturing/manipulaitng people, surely he could see what they were going for with that

HAL

Finally 😅

Reginald

I think most people just react to historias mom with horror thus do not think much furhter about her backstory

HAL

uuuuuh... first comment, not spoilery at all, second comment asking wether its spoilery or not might be considred spoilery though

HAL

time to analyze fictional problems which at least have some narrative meaning instead

HAL

I have never heard of anyone, other than myself, who has thought about who Historia’s mother really was?! No name, or origin. I find it likely she was kidnapped shortly after giving birth to Historia, and likely was a “lady of the night”. She specifically laments giving birth to Historia. Nothing else. Ergo, deciding to give birth or not was the condition that got her imprisoned.

Adam Young

I remember when I first watched Ymir's flashback and they said "we will be blessed with immortality" I thought they were referring to how Ymir in titan form remained a teenager for sixty years (or at least was still a teenager physically after emerging from the titan after eating Marcel). Will not comment further on that, but am loving hearing how differently we both interpreted it ^_^

Anna Kyruin

Nice to have something to take my mind off of how fast my country is spiraling into fascism

GMP Chemist

Can’t wait to see your reaction to the next episode 🤤

Eleonora Frizorger

Driahva

Hope you are okay Screep - the community is here if you need anything!

Sophie Anders

Season 3 has just been crazy so far! It feels like it's moving a million miles an hour!

Sophie Anders

I loveeeee hearing your theories! I feel like it just gets deeper and deeper as the episodes progresses. Season 3 is my favourite season, so I'm very excited to see your reaction and how your theories will evolve from here!

Gina Queen

Just perfectly timed, haha I was in the middle of typing a message to my friend that I'd definitely regret sending, about to break down on them

screeptoneet

Bye bye existential crisis!

Sophie Anders

I was just about to drop in a period of existential crisis, when the phone in my hands vibrated with this notification, now I'm content and happy again xD
