Life Update

Hi my darlings!!

For those of you that didn't see the community post - I have recently accepted a job offer!

I love creating content full time but financial stability is so important in this day and age. Not only is this a hybrid job but it has extremely good benefits and is a job for life as it's an industry not impacted by redundancies.

I am terrified for what this means in regards to my content. Providing early access on Patreon and editing 6 videos a week is a lot but I am able to do it because I was treating it like a full time job.

With my new role being full time so around 40 hours a week - I am not going to have as much time. My intention is to film during the week after work and then do the bulk of the editing on my weekends.

I want to be as transparent as possible in that it may not be feasible to provide early access a week in advance. I will try to maintain it as best I can but it may end up being that I do a weekly drop of all the videos I have filmed that week on a Sunday.

It may still end up being early access as I have a feeling I will need to drop down to 4 videos a week on YouTube. Just to try and provide some sense of a work/life/content creation balance.

I will be continuing Frieren until it is finished but, afterwards, I don't think it's possible for me to do a series exclusive every 4 weeks as they can vary in length. What I'm going to do instead is give some movie options and we can have a monthly movie exclusive if people would be happy with that? I'm also open to movie suggestions!

Sorry for rambling. I truly appreciate you all for supporting my content so I don't want to disappoint and let you all down so I'm trying my absolute best to try and find someway for you all to feel valued and appreciated

Ah yes! It's nice to see Sarah's content because it's spaced out similar to what mine is going to be so nice to see that it's doing really well for her. Gives me a bit of relief truthfully!! Thank you for sharing!!

Sophie Anders

i like watching reaction videos in general, but the three youtubers i watch the most are Sarah Pavan (+ her husband Adam), Lachy White, and Jared&Jordan! i have a preference for reactors that include the whole (or the majority of the) episode/movie they are reacting to in their videos so that I can watch along with them. J&J have a very fixed schedule with their reactions and they upload a LOT (they upload reactions every day!). i believe jordan said before that he does the majority of the editing for their videos. until somewhat recently, Sarah only uploaded reactions once a week. when i first started watching her, some reactions were even several months apart! lol. that was because she had competitions/tournaments and was really busy. i didnt mind the infrequency though, because i just really enjoy her reactions that i dont mind the wait. she does have two editors though who edit all of her reaction videos.

riddle

Ohhh who?!

Sophie Anders

yes the ones i watch do anime reactions! two of the anime reactors that i watch edit their own content and one of them has editors who take care of that for them.

riddle

I think it's fine to throw that on the list, and we can give a basic rundown of the necessary background info.

Hezer

"Wolf Children" (bring a whole tissue box and a water bottle to rehydrate)

Arrow

Yeah, you have a point there. I think bc she is so smart and her attention to detail is on another level, I think she would make sense of it. I have faith in Sophie! And they are just so aesthetically pleasing. It's Okay if these don't make the list.

Jordan

Your Name!

Driahva

With the Anime reaction channels I’ve seen, they must have someone ready to edit and upload. But then those are simply reactions, there’s no other substance to the videos otherwise.

Jay Mistry

I think that’s where the content diverges because I don’t follow Anime reactors but rather film ones. And those reaction channels I do follow must’ve gotten an editor long after they started. Also they hadn’t experienced a boom in growth so soon after starting. With you, you’ve certainly had a fantastic boom in growth and solidified your core audience whilst not having an editor. End of the day: their reaction journey differs to yours in a lot more ways than the type of content being put out.

Jay Mistry

Do they do anime reacts too?! Literally every channel I've seen posts a different anime every day and I'm like "HOW?!" they have to be paying for an editor but at the same time it definitely puts a lot of pressure on newer reactors to try and keep up :')

Sophie Anders

I'll definitely consider it! I think most people tend to be in the boat of wanting to watch it uncensored. I was the one that threw in the Early Access haha!! I've heard A Silent Voice come up a few times! The other 2 I'll add to the list!!

Sophie Anders

Though, Heaven's Feel movies throw you into the deep end of Fate universe without much explanations. It would require watching at least Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, to have explained how Holy Grail War works. But I'd still be interested in her reactions.

Hezer

Yeah, the majority of the reactors that I follow usually do 3 uploads a week, but film a lot in advance. One reactor that I follow films their reactions like 3ish weeks before uploading them to YouTube. That way, she can have a little more wiggle room for when she's busy and can't film/edit, but can still have content to upload regularly.

riddle

Congrats on your job offer!!! Personally, I won't mind the amount or frequency of content decreasing on here, I was mostly interested in being able to watch your content uncensored. Maybe you can adjust your tiers as you see fit? Like maybe a tier for people who are interested in uncensored/unedited content but don't mind not having early access to content. (Idk I'm just throwing random suggestions) As for movie recommendations, I recommend "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas", "A Silent Voice", and "In This Corner of the World".

riddle

I'll start making a list of movies and add these onto there!

Sophie Anders

Thank you lovely. It's going to be a shock to the system going back after being out of work for four months! But financial stability is a must and it'll be nice to have this channel as a hobby where I can share my love for analysing media!

Sophie Anders

I recommend the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel trilogy of movies. You dont need to watch them back-to-back but that should cover three months and they are soooooooo good. Some of the best animation of all time.

Jordan

FIrst of all, congratulations on landing your job! We will miss being spoiled by your frequent uploads, but i think we all understand the importance of financial stability, specially in the current world. Regarding anime movies, I think that "Your Name" and "A Silent Voice" are the standard options for reactors. So if/when you decide to do movie reactions you should definitely start with those and move from there

Krul

SCARY THOUGH!!

Sophie Anders

Yayaya yippeeee job haver energy!

Driahva

I jest but yes - I'd like to know too if people are upset and if they don't want to support anymore due to the slow down in content just so I can try and find a compromise but ultimately I do have to prioritise what is best for me!

Sophie Anders

Maybe bad choice of words on my part if it feels like a threat. 🤣 No, I just want others to have content that they enjoy too, and have a say without feeling like their opinions are drowned in the mass. Because I suspect the support you receive here despite the changes is overwhelming.

Hezer

Thank you so much Hannah!! I'd love to know these channels so I can look at them for inspiration! All the channels I've seen are posting like multiple show reacts a day and I'm like "HOW?!"

Sophie Anders

Thank you so much Erinn!! Yeah it's been a whirlwind. Hit 5K on YT and the same day I found out I'd received the job so I was like "OKAY WHAT" - it's all been quite hectic. Don't have a start date. Still hoping for February so I can prepare content ahead of time but who knows!

Sophie Anders

Why does that sound like you are going to fight them Hezer? 😂

Sophie Anders

Any recommendations Peregrine?!

Sophie Anders

Movie sounds great! There are lots of anime films that will make you cry.

Arrow

Thank you for your transparency again. Personally, I'm fine with just 1-2 videos a week (or less if circumstances require it). I've said it before that your videos are one of the best and I'm not here for the quantity, but for that quality. So I'm not going to be disappointed with any decision. That said, I want to encourage anyone who feels that this change is something you'd no longer support. You are the type of person that we need to discuss with and find a suitable compromise if possible.

Hezer

Agreed! The other ones I follow (or have in the past) post about 3 a week so I don't think you should worry much about it! Also - congrats on the job!!!

Hannah

YAY YAY YAY CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW JOB!!! (And for the record, whatever speed you find yourself at, whatever load doesn’t make you want to tear your hair up, that’s the correct speed. We want the full Dr. Sophie experience, not you-pushing-too-hard, even if it’s less. And I am 100% down for movie time.)

Erinn Daum

I don’t follow many reaction channels but the ones I do, post 3 videos a week. So I wouldn’t worry much about the maintaining the high volume you have, because you’ve now built your base and found a unique core audience who are interested in a more analytical approach to Anime reactions.

Jay Mistry

Thank you! It's just very scary and nerve-wrecking because I've put so much time and effort into this channel so there is the worry of my channel not being as interesting to people because I can't put out the same volume of content but just something I have to accept if that's the case!

Sophie Anders

Jokes aside, it’s all good. With the quality of the content you produce, it understandably takes time and doing it by yourself is by no means an easy feat. So: do whatever works for you. I’ll still be here to support you as a Patron.

Jay Mistry

You had me at “Hi my darlings”…
