Uncut AOT 2 x 2

MY GIRL GOT HER MOMENT!! I AM SO HAPPY!!!

Comments

Your comments about people being resistant to change made me thing of how people are resistant to trans acceptance and before anyone comes at me, you(the viewers that have seen this) and i both know that not only is this show political, but its politically left(with all the topics and concepts discussed in this show, HELL the original concept of Hange was Non-Binary). But yea.

Reginald

I would have flown to Japan and thrown hands haha!!

Sophie Anders

SHE DESERVES A WIN!!

Sophie Anders

That horrible last moment for Mike/Miké/Miche (however his name is spelt) is the only scene in AOT I just cannot watch. I always cover my eyes and look away when that happens. That Sasha moment tho where she saves the girl, throws away the bow and stab the titan in the eye with the last arrow with her own hand is amazing, and the reunite afterwards always gives me happy tears T^T I love Sasha <3

ChikoCharm

Hahahah hang in there!

Russell Gambardella

I had a feeling it was to do with formality but I didn't want to comment on it just in case because it's not so much a language thing in English and I didn't want to speak on something I had little knowledge of in case I was wrong or came across ignorant! Thank you so much for explaining further the relationship between Sasha's use of language with her friends and her family!

Sophie Anders

I FEEL LIKE I HAVE WHIPLASH! My head is going back and forth and I'm like "WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!"

Sophie Anders

She's my baby so I'm so glad she got that moment that she needed to boost her confidence!!

Sophie Anders

Honestly it's fine. The arguments over how to spell the names i. AoT goes above and beyond any other elements over names pronunciation in any franchise I've ever encountered. Most names are germanic to some degree. Hange Zoë / Hanji Zoe is another example.

Driahva

I'm not sure if this should be mentioned before the story is concluded. It's not specifically a spoiler as it didn't happen, but that knowledge could affect the watching experience.

Hezer

to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Eren has already completely forgotten that he was suspected and almost executed. He just responds to Nick this way because he doesn't believe that anyone should keep things secret, if those things can help humanity. He doesn't seem to be a person that would hold "grudges" because he was treated differently.

Hezer

Thanks for the explanation. It's hard to convey it in to other languages, when that language/culture doesn't have anything equivalent. It would require a whole explanation like this, to actually understand the scene between those three characters. Culturally Japan has strong values in hierarchical respect and it affects many things, including the language.

Hezer

DId you know that Sasha was supposed to die at this point of the story but the editor convinced the author not to kill her!

Ragdefender2

Me too, that's why I'm so gitty,, the Sasha scene is just perfection and that OST gets me every time. This show has the best OST. Have you seen the Hiroyuki Sawano/Project【emU】"Attack on Titan Suite?

Kelby Farley

And it only gets better and better. OoOah I'm all gitty lol! Loved the Sasha moment also! The music, the actions she did, and the outcome of it, just perfection. I can hear that song now and get goosebumps and tear up. Every time

Kelby Farley

I am really looking forward to seeing at what point in watching some of the light bulbs start going on in your head about current events in the show. I really love the OST coming in when Sasha throws the child forward and draws her bow, and then again when she throws the bow away. It's such a simple moment but compare it to all the other times we've seen a Titan defeated. Sasha has no ODM gear, no horse, no guns, she's entirely by herself... yet she completely disables one and escapes unharmed.

Anna Kyruin

somehow the worst part of miches death is he didn't get to tell anyone what he saw so none of the characters actually know hte beat titan talks

HAL

9:45 I mean eren was SUSPECTED of keepign secrets/being dangerous and almost got executed for it now he sees this guys just openly saying "yeah I got secrets but I'm not telling you, sucks for you" and everyone just goes along "well, maybe at some point we can get him to willingly talk to us" thats gotta piss him off

HAL

its all one big story - there's a bit of thought put into where to swtich seasons/episodes but in the end its one big story cut up so rather than starting a new season and slowly ramping up the tension we are... at about 1/4 into one long story and the tension just keeps building

HAL

So happy you got your Sasha moment! The pacing of season 2 is diabolical haha

Russell Gambardella

Hi Sophie! I wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your reactions - the combination of emotion and analysis is perfect! I hope you don't mind a little nerdish digression. I'm making no great claims of expertise, but I'm semi-literate in Japanese - enough to read the manga (slowly!) and watch the anime without subtitles (but with pauses!). There are a few nuances in this episode that do get a bit lost in translation. As the subtitles do hint at, Sasha and her dad speak with a strong accent - it's a rural accent from the south of Japan. To a Japanese listener it would have similar connotations to, say, a strong Somerset accent. When she joins the cadets, Sasha adopts not so much a different accent as a different form of speech. She uses a type of Japanese known as 'keigo', which literally means 'respectful language'. It's the language people use to their seniors or superiors to show respect. It doesn't have a direct equivalent in European languages, but it's a bit similar to using 'vous' instead of 'tu' in French. The curious thing about Sasha is that she uses keigo to *everyone*, even her close friends like Connie and Jean. This is extremely peculiar and quite inappropriate and she is the only person in the whole show who does this. So this is what Ymir is picking up on and why she says 'why do you use keigo all the time?' and teases Sasha about it. When Sasha tries to apologise, she starts off using 'normal' Japanese, but then can't help herself and lapses into keigo again, which makes Ymir laugh out loud. Eren, Mikasa and Armin speak 'normal' Japanese to each other but address Levi and Hange exclusively in keigo, which is normal as they are their subordinates. It's no surprise, of course, that Levi never uses keigo to anyone! Anyway, enough rambling. The subtitles are mostly excellent, but sometimes they do miss some nuance through no fault of their own. Hope that was informative! Can't wait for more reactions!

MY GIRL!! Honestly was so happy for her!!

Sophie Anders

Jesus that's extreme!! But I guess it worked because it was harrowing! Unfortunately doesn't quite work for me as I'm deaf in my left ear so I tend to struggle with pronunciation quite a lot! :')

Sophie Anders

You mentioned last episode how you were hoping for a Sasha moment and I was giggling knowing you'd get that right away 😁 I think they could have avoided some pronunciation problems if they'd gone with Miké in the subtitles haha.

Sofomo

If your name was Mike, and you were travelling in Japan, they would call you マイク, which is pronounced kind of like My-Koo (though the "oo" is very soft, almost imperceptible, so it would just sound like Mike). In the AoT manga, Mike's name called ミケ, is pronounced as Mee-Kay. That's why it's sometimes written as Miche. Japanese phonetics aren't always represented well in English, so alternate spellings are pretty common, like Hange vs Hanji. Don't rely on subtitle spelling, just listen for how the Japanese voice actors pronounce the characters' names! ... I heard a rumor that the voice actor for Mike (Miche?) listened to audio of people being mauled by bears before going in to record his last voice lines.
