2024-12-13 09:22:36 +0000 UTCPersonally my thoughts on the discussion about the morality/practicality of Light's actions are that 1 - There is no moral justification for murder and no person should have the right over someone else's life (I'm against the death penalty, so i don't even believe the State should wield that much power) And 2 - That regardless of the morality of it, killing criminals wouldn't end criminality. The way I see it crimes don't happen just because people are inherently evil, they happen because of a series of socioeconomic conditions that lead people to commit crime. So killing criminals without soving those bigger issues would be like trying to solve the symptoms without curing the disease. I think Light is not just a sociopathic narcissist, but also has a incredibly short sighed way of understanding the world.

Also the tennis match was mostly a distraction for Light, because both winning or losing could raise L's suspicions from Light's perspective. Only if Light deliberately lost and it was obvious for L, it would actually be somewhat incriminating. L is just poking Light and seeing his reactions. Same with the test, but a bit more obvious results.
