Yes, she’s smart, but she’s also grief stricken and is desperate to catch Kira and avenge her fiancé, leaving her susceptible to being manipulated by Light who is saying all the right things to her A lot of people view being smart as being omnipotent and infallible, but just like in real life, you can be smart and make mistakes or fall victim to your emotions. It’s how Light can be a genius, yet still fall for L’s trick with the broadcast
