For most citizens, these heroes are almost mythical figures known only through statues and the tales passed down by parents and grandparents, as few except the elders have seen them in person. This is why the town had a parade when they discovered that she was in town, and passing through.

She spend 50 years just wandering around after she left the hero party and thought it was nothing until it was too late. She also spent over 6 months looking for the Blue Moon Flower for Himmel's statue, and was only planning to stop because of Fern's insistence. She really sees time from a very different perspective and kind of feels harried by Fern's constant insistence of doing thinks quickly. I'm sure she was planning to spend a few years just dilly-dallying in that town and was disappointed that she had to continue the journey immediately. I think the way the passage of time is handled in this show is its biggest strength. We usually attach to Frieren a human perspective, but there is a little bit of Otherness in her being an elf and perceiving time in such a different way. Everything human-related just happens too fast for her to process and she is constantly looking for a break to sort her thoughts. It is just that her breaks last the equivalent of a human lifetime so Fern and Stark can't afford to wait for her and have to be constantly pushing her to take action.
