Uncut React Death Note 1 x 5

Intro and Outro edited to make my rambling more understandable haha!

Absolutely! Countries like Norway, Finland, Sweden etc always seem to be MILES ahead of everyone in terms of how they view gender, education, healthcare etc! I'm jealous you live in such a progressive and forward thinking country because the UK maddens me at times haha!

Yeah, it's especially bizarre for me. As that behavior/thinking is almost gone in Finland (although I think it's been rising due to internet and social media). Women's rights have been a thing by law for over 100 years here. And equality is one of core cultural values. Yes, there are still some men who don't respect women, but it's individuals, and I have only met one such person during my life, who actually seemed to think that way. Of course as a man I encounter it less, so that's just my experiences.

I know there's some deep seated traditional notions of gender in China which stem back to the 1 child policy where boys were more valued than girls due to gendered idea of legacy and carrying on the family name. Though I do believe China is improving. However, the notion of 'women only staying at home and having babies' exists in every country and seems to be popular to promote especially on social media which I find so bizarre quite frankly!

The age of the series shows a bit in the writing. Japan has had strong gender/family roles, where married woman stays home, while the man provides living for the family. And currently it's a bit of a generational crisis as women don't want to get married. (probably because the attitude/stigma towards working woman have not changed enough. As well as the treatment of women in general. But don't quote me on that, just writing off the top of my head.) It's similar that have been happening elsewhere as well, but from what I've seen, the movement among women is stronger in Japan. Usually in anime, it's not portrayed so blatantly misogynistic as for what we saw in the scene with Ray and his fiance. More often it's the overly sexualized or idolized view of women. And that's the more shameful side of Japanese culture, but also common in Korean culture. I don't know if Chinese culture has similar tendencies, but I suspect so.
