He could just lie low and keep on going with his plan, but his narcissism just won't allow that. He has to be the smartest, bestest, mightiest guy around or he won't be satisfied, lol

2024-11-05 05:22:13 +0000 UTCI think most common working hours in japan are from 9/10 to 17/18, but many are also expected to do overtime, so they would leave work later. This was the case at least when this anime was released in 2006. Also due to the population, the work culture is very competitive, full-time jobs are relatively rare and instead you'd have to do multiple part-time jobs. So Kira's active hours would more likely suggest the culprit to be a student.
