Rewatching this while waiting for the next one to drop. Can't contain my excitement!

You guys were talking during it, but they mentioned Chapel being absent from the group.

This show is so fucking cool dudes! Thank you for sticking with it, this was a real prototype for a lot of shows that came later. These are two awesome episodes, the next two are also fucking great. And so are the two after that, and the two after that, and so on. This show was a blueprint for anime going forward, and the lore is coming. It's a beautiful story. Thank you again, this has been such a great opportunity for a rewatch.

I don't know if you guys caught it but the leader of the Roderick gang in the first episode was voiced by Steve Blum, aka Spike

I absolutely CAN NOT WAIT for you guys to see the next episode. I am absolutely LOVING all your theories. I have so much I want to say but shouldn't...so I'll just say...you'll have (some) answers soon. As for Vash, my interpretation is that his lighthearted goofy side is partially who he wants to be, and partially a trauma response. I think he's molded himself in such a way that his goofiness can be considered his true self at this point, but his serious self is his "default" self. He has to remind himself to lighten up. If you remember, back in episode 7, in his little fantasy where he's talking to Rem she says "you're very serious-minded, aren't you Vash?" and in episode 12, also in his fantasy, she laughs at him and says "it's just you're always so serious, even when you're dreaming. You'll turn into an old man very quickly if you keep constantly pondering like that." Also in episode 12, you see him struggling with the decision whether or not to kill Monev. And that's when he goes and has his internal conversation with Rem. Rem was everything to him, and the way he lives is because of her. His pacifism is because of her. His goofiness is because of her. His default instinct was to kill Monev out of rage. His default instinct is to be serious and get lost in thought. But he remembers her and everything she taught him, and he uses that as inspiration to lighten up despite everything. He sees all the pain around him, so being that goofy guy is a struggle for him. But he maintains that persona to honor Rem, to bring joy to those around him, and as a coping mechanism for himself. Wolfwood also saw through his facade in episode 9 and said "Well I'll be, I'm actually kinda surprised you can smile like that. You had me kind of worried...I noticed you always smile and seem really friendly, but the way you smiled was so empty, it hurt to watch you. You're hurting like crazy on the inside, yet you grin and bear it."

The next episode is probably the one I've most waited for you guys to react to from the start. Can't wait to see what you think! I feel the most bad for Meryl. It's clear to see that as she's gotten to know the Vash beyond the rumors lies and personas that she's slowly fallen for him. Not just in a strictly romantic sense, but in the sense of fully believing in Vash as a person and wanting to be there for him no matter what. It's amazing character development since she was his biggest detractor at the beginning and it took her some time to truly see him as he was. But now that she has, there is no way she can look away anymore. This has gone infinitely far beyond the job for her and to a lesser degree Milly who genuinely cares about them both. They are truly the metaphorical stand ins for us the viewer and how our understanding of Vash and this world of people he believes in so much changes while watching him struggle.

I was waiting for the episode when he destroys Augusta, it’s crazy. Can’t wait to see you guys react to the rest, this is when the real story begins. Great video as always!
