My First Reaction to Star Wars Episode I | Anakin, Padmé, and Darth Maul!

We officially entered the prequel era—and it was a ride! From podracing to political schemes, a young Anakin to that epic Darth Maul duel, this movie really set the stage for everything to come. There's a lot going on, and we had so much fun seeing the roots of the galaxy we’ve come to know. Who stole the show in this movie for you—Maul, Qui-Gon, or someone else?

My First Reaction to Star Wars Episode I | Anakin, Padmé, and Darth Maul!

Yes, so we actually went ahead and watched Episode II already and will be watching Episode III this weekend! I'm enjoying these movies so much that I didn't want to wait to continue watching 😬

I understand it's frustrating trying to edit this video to view on youtube, but I recommend to continue watching Episode 2&3 (& Rogue One) as previously planned, even if you don't upload them soon. Don't lose the current momentum within this Star Wars story.

Timeline: For timeline context, The Phantom Menace is set 32 years before the events of A New Hope. The Star Wars fandom created a dating system called BBY, which stands for "Before the Battle of Yavin" referring to the pivotal battle in A New Hope when the Rebellion destroyed the first Death Star. So The Phantom Menace is set in 32 BBY, 32 years before the Battle of Yavin, aka A New Hope. Everything after A New Hope is labeled ABY, After the Battle of Yavin. Simple Timeline: Episode l - The Phantom Menace : 32 BBY <------- Here Episode ll - Attack of The Clones : 22 BBY Episode lll - Revenge of The Sith : 19 BBY Episode IV - A New Hope : 0 BBY Episode V - Empire Strikes Back : 3 ABY Episode VI - Return of the Jedi : 4 ABY --------------------------------------- Practical Efforts & CGI: The Phantom Menace actually features the most practical effects out of all the Star Wars films, which surprises a lot of people. The prequels are often associated with heavy CGI and were among the first films to really push digital effects forward. For example, Attack of the Clones (2002) was the first Hollywood film to be shot entirely on a digital camera. The Phantom Menace (1999) included the first fully CGI character, Jar Jar Binks, setting the stage for characters like Gollum (The Lord of the Rings) and Thanos (MCU) down the line who wouldn't exist without these films. -------------------------------------- Wider look at the galaxy: The film also gives us a much deeper look into the galaxy than the original trilogy. Coruscant, which I mentioned in my Return of the Jedi reaction, is a great example. As the capital city of the Republic, it highlights the political side of the Star Wars universe, with the massive Republic Senate made up of senators from across the galaxy, each representing their home planet. Naboo as well is stunning and provides a beautiful contrast to the original films, yet it still feels like Star Wars. This applies to the ships as well, the sleek yellow Naboo starfighters are amazing and stand in stark contrast to the more individual, cobbled-together look of the ships in the original trilogy, since the Rebellion was using whatever they could get their hands on. I'm pretty sure Lucas even based the Naboo fighters on 1950s sports cars, gives off a very retro Space-Age look and feel. We of course visit more worlds, explore Jedi history, and experience a wide range of cultures and environments, all of which add to the richness and depth of this Galaxy Far Far Away. Something The Clone Wars TV series (set in between Attack of The Clones & Revenge of The Sith) expands upon as well across 7 Seasons. ----------------------------------------- The Trade Federation: So, the Trade Federation isn't really the "bad guys," strictly speaking. One of George Lucas's biggest regrets was how they came across as outright villains, when in reality it was only a few individuals (like Viceroy Nute Gunray and his inner circle) who were directly involved in the invasion of Naboo. They were acting under the influence of the mysterious hooded Sith Lord we kept seeing. The Trade Federation, as a whole, is more of a powerful commercial organization than an evil regime like the Galactic Empire seen in the original trilogy. Lucas later began to show the Trade Federation in a more neutral light during The Clone Wars (2008–2020) animated series, which bridge the gap between Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.

You probably already noticed that Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson were in this, and of course they would venture of to the MCU as Jane Foster and Nick Fury. Another thing I wanna point out, is that Lucsafilm has made an animated series called Star Wars: The Clone Wars, that takes place between Episode 2 and 3, and further develops Anakin and Obi-Wan's characters, as well as other supporting characters, AND introducing a pivotal character as well. It started with a movie and then ran for 7 seasons

Thought this was the Attack of the Clones reaction for a second lol
