Quinns Looks Back on 2024 in TTRPGs!

Who wants to hear hour of me chattin', relaxin', and reflectin' on the last year?

Some of you? Great.

Real Quinns Quest heads will know I'm a big fan of Thomas Manuel's Yes Indie'd Podcast, which, like Quinns Quest, is a show about the TTRPGs that exist outside of the biggest brands that people are most likely to have heard of. I was on an episode earlier this year talking a lot about my relationship to TTRPGs and my reviewing process, and after that I decided (without necessarily having his consent) that Thomas and I are now best friends.

Well, this month best friend Thomas invited me back on the show to reflect on what the year has been like for the TTRPG scene. In the above episode we touch on crowdfunding efforts as disparate as Ars Magika: Definitive Edition, Draw Steel and The Between! We ask what it means to have new outlets of journalism like Rascal News and Quinns Quest, both still wet with the dew of birth! And we realise we have nowhere near enough data to support our optimism (me) or pessimism (Thomas).

I love talking to Thomas, the big cool friendly cucumber that he is, and I'm actually hoping that he'll have me back on in a year to discuss 2025 in TTRPGs. Get ourselves a little tradition.

Enjoy the show, folks!

Loved the podcast appearance. And as a queen woman I'm more than happy to open my wallet! 😆

What a great conversation! Your work has really made me super excited for the future of T.T.R.P.G.s, and your optimism is infectious! Keep it up!

A fun idea for patreon content is rpgs you really don’t like and why. Quinn’s quest is above love of rpg so I think content like that wouldn’t fit on the main channel. I just think knowing why a RPG isn’t fun is arguably a better teacher than observing success.

Always delightful listening to you and Thomas chat away ☺️

...but now I'm scared for the other games

Phew! I want to feel good about the game that I'm referencing as I'd like to run it.

You have absolutely not figured it out, I guarantee!

Way to start drama with the revelation that you don't like a popular system lol. But I'm sure the ppl liking the system now will have fun games and good memories of it regardless of your critiques. In all honesty I appreciate your willingness to tell your own truth. I hope you never feel the need to compromise your opinions.

Wait, is this not the patreon for savory tarts, Quiche Quest? That’s it, I’m doing a chargeback.

Alex Merrill

The AI generated chapter titles on Spotify include "Quince Quest" and "Queen's Quest".

Bit sad if I've pegged the S2 dud. Mind you, I haven't run it precisely because I think the rules are old fashioned in a way that won't serve the setting. Been eyeing up Trophy - which I've played a lot - as an alternative system.

Hearing that you're enjoying CAIN is awesome! It has been one of my favorite releases this year. I'm definitely one of those people who enjoy a more board-gamey experience but even I think CAIN just feels right whenever I play it. Excited to hear that Season 2 production has been going so well! Quinn's Quest has definitely been an inspiration for me to consider what I can do to help the wider hobby grow and what sort of skills/perspective I can bring to it, so hearing that things have been smooth sailing so far is great!

You're so welcome!

Quinns

You know, I think this is a smart idea! 💡

Personally love the behind-the-scenes production and business financial discussion. Thank you.

I've been enjoying this podcast in recent months, so this is very cool news 🤗

While listening to the podcast and hearing you talking about the problem of too frequent reviews (when I saw the "complaints" you mentioned in the comments all those months ago, my immediate reaction was "Interesting, looking forward how Quinns is going to handle this..."), I had an idea I wanted to share in case you hadn't thought of something like this already and would be interested: In case that you want to make more YT-Content, you could throw videos in between the reviews looking at the most popular systems, do a short analysis of them and then recommending lesser known games of a similar theme which simply do it better. This could help to "catch" some players of the D&D, CoC and PF2, &c. communities and steer them towards more niche but creative systems/authors.
