The tunnel in the second frame leads into the Airum City Underground Canals. There are a number of small canals under the city that connect to the mouth of the Renoi River. The canals have been used for public transport similar to the gondolas of Venice, except underground and using a complex system of chains to pull them.
I'm sorry that this page took so long, but I hope you can see why ^^

There's this thing in fantasy writing where religions are created by the writers to help structure and organize the world, which is different from how religions in the real world were created. Real-world myths and religions were created by humans as a means to explain and make sense of the world in a time before science, and my co-writer and I have taken this approach to the religions of the Gateworld. There are about a dozen different religions in the Gateworld, and they all have different perspectives as to how the Gateworld actually functions. Furthermore, there is evidence that all gods exist to some extent, even though the existence of many of them would prove that gods from other religions shouldn't exist, and yet they do. Point is that the religions in the Gateworld have a little bit of magic to them, but they are effectively just biased explanations to how the world works :)
