What happens when social media transforms the mirror from a tool of private reflection to a stage for public display?
Artworks about “The Dark Side of Social Media".
With these pieces we aimed to emphasize what happens when we give away our privacy, when we turn "privately looking at ourselves in the mirror" into "publicly posting our mirror selfies". By repeatedly doing this we risk opening ourselves up to anonymous unfalsifiable criticism, pressuring ourselves into always looking "perfect", comparing ourselves to countless manipulated "ideals", and persuading ourselves into showing more skin (because of the online emphasis on physical appearance and the perceived engagement on sexualized content). All of this to the detriment of our relationship with our body and mind.
